Newbie questions on a new budget setup
Discussion
Hi all,
I’ve just ordered my first TV in about 7 years, a Sony Bravia 55xf9005 - it’s a hell of an upgrade on my current 32” Sharp!
To go with this TV I want to get a sound system that will do it justice. I’ve only got a small living room and my budget isn’t huge, let’s say around £350 all-in.
I have back-ordered the all-in-one Harman Kardon BDS 6 system after seeing it for £278 on hotukdeals - I think it is a passive subwoofer, but doesn’t pass through 4K sound accordingly to the hotukdeals thread (I’m stull unsure of what that means, but it doesn’t sound good considering my 4K Tv!).
I’ve since seen a much cheaper option of the Logitech Z906 package going for £150. Would this be a better alternative for a better price, or is the HK BDS model worth the extra money?
Failing either being sufficient, are there any better options around my budget that would be better for my TV? (Added bonus if speakers are wireless)
Ps. I have a vinyl player - could that also go through the same system as my tv, or better to keep it separate?
Thanks for your time to help answer in advance, please excuse my novice questions!

If you've got the space always go AV amplifier and separate speakers. Stuff can be upgraded when needed and it;s more likely to be universally compatible, Might be a bit tough on your budget.
There's cheaper but something like this would suit.

The HK BDS 635 is a bluray player with built in surround amp and speaker package.
It is NOT a UHD disc player - i.e. it will only play dvd and Bluray discs and then upscale them to "4k" (which your telly can do too). It won't play UHD disks, is thats what you are after.
It has HDMI Arc, and optical autio inputs, so it will take your TV programs and play them in surround "from" your TV.
The sound will be "adequate" - but it will be a huge step of for you if you are coming from just TV speakers.
The logitech is a "toy" system. More suited to a PC .
I'd go to richer sounds, buy a real AV amp, and some of last year's Q Acoustic speakers or similar. A world apart from what you are looking at.

^^^This.
As ever on PH, OP quotes a budget and suggestions come in above that, but something along the lines of:
Proper (budget) surround bundle for £350
and
UHD 4K bluray player for £130.
The above would sound pretty good, and comes in at a total of £480.
It would also sound pretty decent for playing music, and you could most likely connect your vinyl turntable although you'd need to tell us what your turntable actually is to confirm that.
As was mentioned above, you could look to go with a separate 2 channel setup for music, but it would blow your budget right out of the water.
