Should I buy a 2016+ merc c class diesel?

I just can't make sense of the info. relating to diesel.

Some say you're a leper if you've got a diesel car and they'll be banned/fined in future thanks to dieselgate.

Others say modern diesels are still preferable and they're torquier and more efficient and more reliable and latest ones produce less emmisions...

The reason is there are so many good diesel cars at good prices right now. Petrols are harder to find!

What does one do? redface

The first question to ask yourself is do you do at least 1 50-60 mile constant 50-60mph drive a month to activate a regent of the DPF?
If not then petrol could be less troublesome imo.

If you're doing 10,000+ miles per year then yes a diesel will be fine less than that & I'd say go for a petrol.

I don’t think it’s the total annual mileage that’s the consideration, the DPF issue is a real concern if you are not doing regular 1 hour plus 50-60mph journeys!
