TTS. The safe choice?
Discussion
Im looking for a new car to replace the mk6 GTTDI. 12k max. Where I live in Derbyshire it seems to be wet even in summmer, and I have an itch to scratch. Quattro. Specifically an S3 sportback. I am, however, a little put off by the reports of these cars being targeting by the crims. I know it’s more the newer model, but still.
So I have been looking at the TTS. More power, less space, the same money (ish). How are these faring with the scallys? Assume as only 2 door, and it will be a manual, it won’t be as much of a problem?

I don't think the older S3 (8P) is such a theft magnet.
If you're going to get a TTS why not just get the 3 door S3? Less likely to get pinched in 3 door and still relatively practical.
I would have to agree with this, 3 doors or coupes appear to be less of a target, I am sure there will be exceptions..If you're going to get a TTS why not just get the 3 door S3? Less likely to get pinched in 3 door and still relatively practical.

The 3dr S3 is a good shout. I just feel it looks a little dated. The interior especially. Was there a facelift?
My other thought was an R32 Golf. But again I don’t think I could live with the interior. The 3.2 TT look excellent value.

I had a MK2 TT 3.2 Coupe for 8 years as a daily driver. They were only produced until 2008 so well within your budget and there are a few about with low miles.
Like a lot, mine was DSG, no paddles. I'm not sure it ever worked as it should as it was a bit clunky, especially when cold, even after the oil changed (and Haldex) at 40k. Both window regulators failed (naturally) and the standard hifi wasn't much - no bass, useless iPod connection although 6 mp3 cds could be used. At 50k it looked like needing new shocks and discs +++ so I took that as a prompt to change it.
It's a softer ride than the Mk3, so easy to live with, and mag ride is an option. Surprisingly practical if you think of it as a two seater. Although not as powerful as the TTS, I prefer it in some ways, particularly the noise.
