Bah. lego is pointless now - buy an enzo kit and thatll be all you can make with it, no spaceships or mutant monsters anymore, totally inflexible which defeats the purpose.

It's all done for you though! Cheating nonsense. When I were a lad, Lego were just bricks and t'imagination.

And we had to eat coal to keep warm.

Agree in recent years this has been the case but they are definitely going more back to basics on some of the newer stuff. I have the truck in the middle (which is huge) and its using a lot of good old school pieces. You'll also find this with the Maersk cargo ship currently available and a lot of the train stuff. Admittedly a lot of it is more specialised, but there seems to be less of the bespoke piece for a certain model going on. Its almost as though they have recruited a lot of new modellers recently.

This is really sad but between the kids and me we have enough Lego to fill two good size suitcases - gets dragged out a few times a year but the major problem is the bartering that goes on over the taps or 'computer' that we 'have' to nick from something another built 2 years ago that they refuse to let be broken up

I agree it's all too easy. Still, they look good when finished I guess. Maybe simple rectangle blocks can't compete with computer games so easily now.

You should see how rc cars have changed. When I was a kid I had to get the drill and files out to modify the parts just to make them fit. The instructions were wrong and everything was a real task. Now you just shake the box and it's done. Pah! Here's a proper one, half of it an '86 PB, the other half self made, like the chassis and suspension bits etc:

Windsor Safari Park closed YEARS ago 1992!

I went there as a kid, and the Wife bought me a Safari park logo rugby shirt for me in 1990. Either it has got smaller or I have bigger, as it it only used for painting now.

It has been Legoland for 10 ish years now.

As I say, I am there in 5 days time!

That's very impressive actually. My Dad, a preofessional engineer, used to stay up for hours building walking Lego robots, using the electric motor and gear sets much like yours by the sounds of it. He was mighty proud when they walked along the table top successfully.

He also often used Lego to test out his perpetual motion concepts, with somewhat less success. Meccano proved more successful in this latter application (although not completely, of course).

Meccano has the run on all of these plastic solutions.

Since the war the basic building unit has been bendable. It's only really now that LEGO has caught up. Madly the electric motor was seen as a revolution for LEGO. With Meccano, a long time ago, there used to be a real steam engine that one could use to power one's creations!

Lego was deffinently better when I was a kid.

I always liked the big rear engine supercars they made. I had thought that they'd lost the plot recently with the F1 car but the Enzo seems better.

I never actually owned one but a few of my mates had them. Ah, the slamshift cogswapping gearboxes and equal length double wishbone suspension. The memories

All my stuff was the technic pnuematic and leccy motor stuff. Recently they've released a pnuematic set with a compressor and accumulator. I tried this when I was a kid but with no success.

If I had the money I'd be sorely tempted to go through ebay and buy up all the old technic kits I never had.

Anyone have an opinion on which was the most impressive technic kit was or I am I taking it toooo far

When I was a kid I was always impressed when some bloke would display a model truck he'd have made from about 10 kits in the back of the lego club magazine.

not anymore
This is impressive:
