I'm looking to step in the world of 911's and really want a 993. I can only realistically afford a LHD for about £20k. Can anyone tell me if there are any downsides to owning a LHD car for everyday use or should I look at a high mileage RHD or maybe a 3.2 Boxster S.......

Nope....takes a bit of getting used to but soon feel very at home. Don't even think about it now. Have to position yourself slightly differently on the road for sighting when thinking about overtaking but beyond that....its all good.

Have been driving my LHD 993 for nearly 5 yrs now, only minor irritations in car-park/toll booth and drive throughs, but the significant advantages (other than cost) far out-weight them.

You rang?

Having just bought my third lhd 993 i guess i know these guys a little by now.

If you drive a rhd 993 you will see what a 993 is all about. Then you'll get into a lhd 993 and suddenly everything lines up, the seat feels like it fits to the steering wheel, you aren't looking for a steering column adjuster (good thing cos there isn't one), the pedals are actually in front of you...

Upsides - For most overtakes where you can't see in RHD, you can in LHD. On the way to Le Mans you'll reverse that advantage with your mates, but you'll be lined up for the toll booths You can chat to the cute girl next to you at the traffic lights too when you come back to blighty though.

Downsides - the ticket machine at the multi storey carpark (if you ever take your 993 to a multi storey).

If you want to ask any specific questions, e-mail me.

Oh, and i'm afraid my car's just been sold (through PH).
