Any experience or thoughts on the pros and cons of Diablo Rosso versus Pilot Power tyres (e.g. wet grip, how quickly them warm up, etc)?

Which ones? There’s been several models of both.

Yes this, they are tyres that have been available for the last 10 years under them names, if you are looking at the cheap end of the market the Michelins are a better tyre but I'd recommend spending a bit more and putting something recent on like M7RR's as tyre technology has come a long way.

Why have you singled out those?

If you want sporty road m7rr as someone said earlier are still the best option.

If you want sporty road and some track s21.

If you want sporty road on a budget Avon 3D ultra sport.

If you want all weather pilot road 4 or 5.

probably coz they're a fair bit cheaper than the m7rr

haven't tried the diablos but the pilot power 3 are a staggeringly good tyre. Tour, scratch, trackday. Great durability and excellent edge grip. Dual compound front and rear also.

Not tried the Pilots but have Diablo Rosso II on the 916 and have been pleased, plenty of grip at least in warm conditions (don't do winter riding) but I wouldn't say they last well.

I also fitted them on the Monster and, again they worked fine but the rear wore out very quickly compared to on the 916 despite it being a lower-powered machine.

I loved the rosso II, but went through the 1st in less than 3k and that was on my 750 v-twin. Still bought another though as it just inspired confidence.

I have ps4's on my fireblade which are great in the wet but I'll replace them with something more sticky next time for the dry. Sounds daft I know but the ps4's look a bit naff to me and don't look right on a sports bike.

What does the PS massif think of the newer Power RS tyre? Handling? Durability? Wet grip? Warmup from cold?

yes Though I'm curious to know how the Power RS compares to the Rosso II.

I'd take a Power RS over a Rosso II any day of the week. Don't get me wrong, the Pirelli is a good tyre but I have confidence with the Michelin if it's wet and cold. All that said, I'd still use a PR5 for commuting.

There is a Power RS+ rear tire now.
It has better wet surface performance, on the level of reference tire (which was M7RR Metzeler in the test).

I will try RS front and RS+ rear next year.

Evening all,

I had Pilot Power RS on my old Aprilia Tuono. If it was dry, it was ridiculous levels of grip. If it was damp, all was still well. Standing water is where it started to fall down slightly (but thankfully not literally) and one should be riding to the conditions anyway, so far from a complaint!

I then had Pilot Power 3s on my subsequent GSXS 1000, and to be honest, they were not noticeably worse than the RS (although I only rode on the road), but they seemed much more self assured in the rain. Not quite as soft as the RS so they wore slightly better (5000 miles on the GSXS rear vs 4400 miles on the Tuono rear, and yes I know it's not a fair test but may be able to be used as a very rough guide).

I don't have much experience of Pirellis but one of my friends has a Diavel, which has at one time had a choice of either Rosso II, Power 3 or Power RS. He was on the Pirellis when I used to ride with him (on the Suzuki). Not once was I ever held up.

In most cases, the ability of the tyre exceeds the ability of the rider. I find that quite reassuring!

My 821 came with Rosso 2’s and they weren’t great. Ok in the dry and the warm, but put a bit of moisture about and they become a bit slidey and you lose a lot of feeling. They’re pretty soft too. Not a bad profile.

The Rosso 3 is much better all round, comparable to the M7RR.

I’d go for one of the above and avoid the Rosso 2 personally.

My MV came on DR2s and on road and track in all weather they were good. The 3s I replaced them with are significantly better in the cold, mind.

There is a S22 coming out to replace the S21 next year.

I've had the S21 since launch on my R1 it's a great tyre at a great price. Longevity not amazing though but what is on a 1000cc.
