It's not quite that bad though because you've added in the cost of the car twice - in the purchase price/depreciation and the cost of your loan. The unassigned part should be deleted IMHO to give 75p/mile and most would not include the cost of insurance so that would be 63p/mile. Hope that you can sleep a little easier now.

Cheers for that. Makes it much easer to live with
Now what toy to get next..... Dave 500 said:Blimey... is that with or without depreciation? Don't know what you're doing but I've just replaced the Chassis! and my mileage costs are £1.36/mile
I was board at work and just filled out the history thing in the profile to see how much it realy does cost to run my Chimaera.
Hope your all sitting down...
£0.99p per mile which works out about £1127.25 a month.. no wonder i'm always skint![]()

I don't know if Ted fixed it, but the calculation use to work out mileage costs based on actual costs rather than daily (and future expected mileage) costs. So, if you drive 40 miles on your first day after £1000 insurance, £170 road tax and petrol at 85p/ltr (& 20 mpg) the mileage costs would work out as £29.25/mile (fixed costs) plus 20p/mile petrol. Day two you drive another 40 miles, but costs are now £14.63/mile plus 20p/mile petrol. In reality, if you drive 40 miles/day, the fixed costs (exc. servicing) will work out at 8p/mile over the course of a year... see where I'm getting at? Say £2000 for servicing, £500 for contingencies/tyres, 14000 miles/year, adds 18p/mile - total 56p/mile for 14000 miles.... I see you've also added a fair few upgrades!!!!
The calculation improves as you build up more historical costs... after several years!
I treat insurance and tax and fixed costs for future year's worth of driving (i.e. £1170/year = £3.21/day = 8p/mile) and maintenance costs are attributed to mileage since previous service... gives a slightly better picture...and from your profile your costs have mysteriously dropped to 63p/mile before depreciation!!! (with 4p/mile overestimate of insurance/tax costs it's practically there!).

I took out the cost of the loan as its included in the cost to buy. Makes a big diffrence..(was about £3500 per year)

Failing that, record interest payments as depreciation and show charges separately.
Actual depreciation, whilst a necessity as there's not a lot you can do about it (and it's based on YOUR assessment of the car's value), is a bit meaningless. Only becomes important when you sell the car!!
