Friend of mine bought a 2009 Mini Convertible from a dealer about two weeks ago. First time we have had any rain and the driver's seat is soaking wet (it has leaked while parked, not while driving). The car came with a three month warranty but is that likely to cover the roof? Worth going back to the dealership? Is there even anything much they can do to rectify it even if they want to?

If the rain has gone through the actual material of the roof rather than past a seal it can be easily re-proofed at under £25 and about an hours work.

Soft tops should be cleaned and re-proofed at least every couple of years to keep them water tight.

If it's a seal gone I could see the warranty covering that but otherwise if the roof (now 9 years old?) hasn't been looked properly I doubt you'll have any luck IMHO.

Not sure where the water is coming from as it has stopped raining now. She parked it up last night, heavy rain overnight, and the driver's seat is soaked.
I'll see if we confined anything in the warranty paperwork

Hosepipe and 2 people. 1 inside. 1 outside.

You'll find the fault in seconds.

See what's leaking and go from there. Bear in mind it's a near 10 year old car so whatever warranty it has isn't like the original factory one.

Self help might be easier than fighting a dealer/shoddy warranty company.

Was the car parked on a level surface? Some seals if tired won't seal properly if the car is parked on a kerb for example and with the body flex, the seal is no longer working as intended. Another issue could be that the windows aren't closing onto the roof correctly, this should be easy to see after closing the door, the window should rise up and over the top seal.

But don't point the hose right at the window seals with it on the death stream setting, I can guarantee you will have a leak on anything without a proper window sash.

I bet the seals just need a clean and lube, also possible the window isn't adjusted up properly, or has dropped, door catch latch needs adjustment, maybe the roof seals themselves need a clean, and the roof mech tightening down. On old cabbys you could adjust how tight the roof was pulled down on the manual handles and hooks. Read the owners manual there is probably a section on it.

Go back to the dealer & they'll probably sort it for you.
