Just stepped back in after coming back from a specialist S / RS Audi dealership to test drive the new Audi TTS. This particular one was in yellow, diamond cut alloys with the wonderful virtual dash.

At first sight the car was a beauty with a fantastic spec, however, as soon as we started driving i felt like I was controlling a Corsa VXR or the likes!

The power just wasn't there at all, I put my foot down expecting to feel thrown back into my seat and a growling exhaust, except i was greeted with neither. I ended up telling the poor salesman that I wouldn't be proceeding further and we ended the test drive early.

Nevertheless on the way home I went past one of the jaguar dealerships and will be test driving / going for the new F-Type.

Does anyone else feel the same disappointment in these new audis? They just aren't what they once were compared to my old TTRS.

Not an Audi fan at all, so I'll park that bit of the post!

Just want to say, choose your JLR dealer very very carefully as regard after sales service, or lack thereof.

Woeful is the word that springs to mind!

Really does depend. My local Jag dealer is woeful but the JLR one that I now use (20 miles away) is brilliant and they are the same company!! Puzzling.

This... RS is in a different league altogether.. Good luck with a JLR product, Audi are light years ahead...

Troll surely!? Or I'm due a massive parrot?

In other news - jet fighter slower than space shuttle shocker.

Yes, TTS is sloooow, next to a TTRS. It's still well ahead of the curve of "everyday" cars.

Oh dear

What were you greeted by in a car that has 306BHP? That has similar performance to an E92 M3 or 997S. Was it a bit slow on your 2 minute test drive in a presumably built up area? Why did you expect a growling exhaust in a 4 cylinder turbo car. Especially when you're used to driving a very similar car.

I bet he was relieved it was over you sound like a timewaster

Why didn't you test drive it there & then? Did they seem unkeen to let you try one? I wonder why if so. Why do you know that you're 'going for it' when you haven't driven it. Apart from the V8 Supercharged one they are all slower than the TTS after all.

There ain't that much in it. You're hardly comparing a Veyron to a Fiesta. Old TTRS is 4.3s to 60, new TTS is 4.6s.
Maybe you didn't press the accelerator pedal down very firmly?

I was thinking the same.. The difference from Eco to dynamic can be pretty significant, more so on the S and RS cars..

I use to own an 09 TTS, never found it slow, just abit remote on driving feel
I think you must be coming from some 400+HP to found the TTS slow

Got to be a troll surely? lol.

I had a S4 4.2 V8 then a 2011 TTS before I went for a mk3 TTS.

My thoughts.

When I picked up the mk 2 TTS the dealer said that it will actually feel quicker than my current S4 which I thought was rubbish until I got it in. Different power delivery and felt quicker around town etc so i was pleasantly surprised.

On my quest for a mk3 TTS the dealer put me in the TTRS and I had a test drive of one of them and of course it was amazing. Actually didnt want to try the mk3 TTS afterwards as didnt want to be disappointed that I didn't want it.
Fast forward a few weeks later Audi call me up and say they have a mk3 TTS in and if I wanted to take it for a spin.
I did and it took me by surprise, obviously no where near as quick or has the noise of the TTRS but in dynamic actually is really good. The test drive actually made me buy one. Like someone said the performance is pretty good (4.6ish to 60), 310hp etc but i do agree it is a bit limpy in eco, comfort or auto mode.
It is my daily driver and is more than enough for me as can drive it totally normal or give it a blast once a week on some A roads.
And the Porsche cayman GTS hits out the same performance but I hear the drive is more engaging.

I've gone from an S5 V8 to a FWD TT 230PS (via an M135i in between) hehe

The latest shape TT actually drives very nicely, it's a great chassis and good fun. Mine is rated 6s 0-60 and it feels nippy and responsive on the road.

I've been in a loan A3 TFSI 190PS Quattro all week which feels noticeably slower when you're pushing on, although Quattro definitely comes into its own in the sort of weather we've got at the moment.

Haven't tried the TTS but I'd be surprised if it was that disappointing as would appear to offer the best of all worlds. I would've had one but they weren't really in budget for me at the time.

Same for me and I had a 2012 model, it never felt slow and it was just a little unengaging. I love the looks and performance of the current one.

Clearly had it in eco mode if you felt underwhelmed.

I know the 140i in eco just doesn’t do much at all when you throttle it, different story in sport.

Failing that, you’re clearly a jag fan boy/salesman.
