Was surveying a void Housing Association property in England today. Access was via a key located in the key-safe on The door frame.
I had finished locked up and was returning to my car when an unmark white transit van pulled up behind me.
Two men jumped out dressed like quasi-policemen. They Identified themselves as "Officers Of The Court" and asked if I had just come out of the house I was surveying. When I said yes they asked who I was and why I was there and if I was the occupier.
I told them what works I was carrying out for the HA and that the tenant had left.
One then told me he needed access to properly to check
I refused saying I wasn't authorised to grant access to third parties.
They claimed they had a Courts Warrant (possibly order) and that I was required to grant them access by law.
I refused got into my car and drove off.
As I did so I was told my actions were in contempt of court and I was getting myself into serious trouble.
Am fairly sure this is rubbish but it would be nice for someone in the know to reassure me I won't be traced by my car registration number and face some sort of consequence for my actions.

How did they identify themselves and what did the warrant say?

I do similar work for HA's. It's nonsense that you are obligated to provide the key safe code, they may have a legal right to it but they would need to get from the owner of the property, the HA, not you. Chancers.

If them being unable to ‘take’ the key from the key safe on the door frame I’d have thought it wouldn’t be any more legal them taking it from you.

No chance I’d have gave it to them.

Absolute idiots.

I walked out of my block of flats once and a bailiff was trying to get in. I let the door slam shut rather than holding it open for him. He asked me to let him in and said he was a meter reader. Clearly bullst. I said no and walked off.

OP, if you had time, you should have hung around to see what would have happened if the Police came.
