Xmas presents for everyone who interacts with your children
Discussion
I'm in the dog house. Two children, one in nursery, the other in primary Yr 2. Mrs just walked in with about 10 present bags with wine miniatures, chocs etc. For all the assistants, teachers, bus driver, bus chaperone, etc
I just shook my head and said it seemed like some kind of insane arms race. This did not go down well!!1!
I'm not a Scrooge but it seems nuts to me. Am I out of touch?!

When we had a baby, the amount of chocolate, flowers, wine etc etc people purchased the midwifes was mad. Clearly they do a fantastic job, but there were piles of the stuff everywhere
I felt a heartfelt Thankyou much more personal
But I am also a tight fit, maybe it’s me that’s the unusual

Fortunately our 2 are now beyond school age, but when they were it wasn't really a thing, until a few years ago my wife worked at a nursery, she got loads of presents from parents.
Women just love spending money I'm afraid, the amount of christmas presents that my wife has bough all her friends is frankly ridiculous, why do women do this I don't know 1 single man who will purchasing a gift for any of his friends.

It is a nice gesture but insane.
The teachers at our school commented that they didn't really like it as they ended up with so much stuff from a class of 30. So the most organized mum had a whip round instead and everyone contributed what they want to and we bought them John Lewis vouchers and split them between the teacher and the TA.

So que Sunday and a everyone on the school list got a little box from lush which came to over £100 in total - I was less than impressed

That would totally piss me off. I know a female that buys at least 20 presents for various randoms and the cost must be about £400+... yet her husband just sucks it up and pays!So que Sunday and a everyone on the school list got a little box from lush which came to over £100 in total - I was less than impressed
Wife is a classroom assistant so at Xmas and end of term she gets loads of gifts from all the kids. Although they are mostly cups and stuff she does actually appreciate that the parents and sometimes kids have thought to do it.
A couple of years ago someone gave her a bottle of cheap perfume called "Bondage" with a silhouette of a tied up woman on the box which raised a few eyebrows!

As the husband of a teacher, I can attest that this is the preferred option should parents decide that they want to give a present. No word of a lie, one year she received a framed photograph of a parent's three children. I'm not entirely sure where said parent intended us to display it so I displayed it in the bin.

Thanks for sharing this. As a result of your story I now plan to tell my wife that I will take care of the gifts. Bottles of Bondage for all. Especially the male teachers. It is a woman thing, don't fret over it. My other half is constantly buying presents for her team. She's a call centre manager and has a large team to look after. Whenever there's a birthday or special occasion, out come the cards and gifts.
I have a small team of 7 to manage none of us by cards or gifts for each other. I find it weird that Mrs Toon does but then she finds it weird that a 44 year old man can quite happily p1ss away an entire Saturday afternoon playing Call of Duty. She'll be having the same conversations with her female mates about how odd it is that I do stuff as I do when I talk to my mates about her buying crap for people she works with.
Mind she has often come home with some pretty nice gifts from her team. I inherit bottles of vodka and chocolate that she can't or won't have so I don't moan too much!

Leave your missus alone, she's sound. My wife is a teacher and she brings shedloads of choccies and drink home from school at Christmas. It's great, as she comes through the door, I'll be grabbing the wine and the Celebrations and cracking them open.Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
