Have a 440i grancoupe. Owned for 14 months now, no issues. Some cracking deals about on the 4 series - guessing they making way new 3 (and eventually new 4) series.
There are , man maths is working hard but it appears the 0% is only for cars delivered by end of 2018 so therefore in stock Real world economy for me in my 435d has been 37.9mpg over the last 10k miles. Loads of town driving and some long trips. Once you get it warm - circa 10 miles you have to be driving it pretty hard to get anything under 40mpg. Very economical once warm. In my experience you aren't going to see over 50mpg though - ever. On a 200 mile journey sitting in and around 80mph I get 45mpg. The other end of the scale is that I get around 30mpg when pottling around town on a cold engine.
I am doing 20k a year on my 340i.... must be doing something wrong! Love it and wouldn’t change for a diesel. 335d May be faster on the traffic light GP with more torque and x drive but for smoothness can’t beat the petrol. It’s also quieter and better sounding if you rev it.
Personal choice both good machines. If you want to save some money (not that much) go for the diesel. Otherwise petrol everyday! Both with auto boxes and both have enough torque that drive ability on the petrol is good for any situation, what I mean the low down torque that benefits the Diesel engines is less of an issue compared to the petrol.
Have fun!

Doing 15k / year in mine and feel exactly the same.I easily average 30mpg+ on a tank, and I could get more if I had any restraint!
Mine also has the Performance and Sound Kit installed so is putting out 360bhp/500nm and is louder than my friend's M2

Only 500Nm and only 30mpg.
Yet a decent powerband and an engine that doesn't sound like it's been lifted out of farm equipment. The X-Drive only 435d also looks like it's on stilts, is a good chunk heavier (and I imagine feels it).
Having had both,
435d every time
440i does sound nicer but it would.
The 35D can put the power down better in every daily situation,in the rain pulling out of junctions its so quick and easy,no traction warnings
Far better on fuel but quite a bit...
Yes it does sit higher, later cars sit slight lower
It is a better package and never fails to impress me.

The 35/40d is a great, great engine, I had it in my 640d GC -but I swapped out of it for a 440i, because it's just so much more enjoyable. The 435d I drove when switching was a tad faster, more economical, and didn't sound that bad at all for a diesel (it really is a superb engine), but by God the decision was an easy one - the 440i engine is so bloody good. If you like revs, go for the petrol, if you like huge amounts of lazy torque, the diesel aces it.
Mind you, what do I know, the 440i only lasted a couple, of years, and 13k miles, before I chopped it in for an M4 Comp this afternoon - which is even better again.
