What's are people using to calculate CGT?
Discussion
In the past I was invested via Cofunds, which generated something they called a CGT report which was intended to be used for client tax returns, except it wasn't fit for purpose. We're now invested with HL who produce very good atomic transactional data, but don't do the relatively simple calculations to generate a CGT report at all. All the information is available to these platforms so it's a bit beyond me why they don't want to offer a CGT calculator.
Does anyone know of a tool which will take transactional dumps from HL and generate a correct CGT report? It needs to handle:
- Buying and selling incomplete portions of a fund across multiple tax years
- Understand the difference between Inc and Acc funds
- Handle Equalisation
- Corporate Events (though I accept these are a bit tricky)
If no such thing exists I'll probably code my own tool but it feels like re-inventing the wheel somewhat.
And if anyone says the CGT is just the difference between the sale and purchase price...you don't understand the question. Though bizarrely this was the Cofunds official position for over a year...
