Concerned about big toe after MTB crash

So last Sunday was out on the mountain bike trails, annoyingly at the end of the trail which I'm extremely familiar with I took the wrong line into one of the jumps at speed and come out the other end of the jump heading for a tree, managed to jump of the bike and miss the tree but landed on my shoulder and somehow have done something to my big toe, shoulder is still fked and bruised badly but getting better. My big toe, I'm not sure what happened, I don't think it's broken as I can walk on my foot, however from Sunday on it started to bruise up to now where under the entire nail is black and no longer attached to the skin under neath, it's still very swollen and I've just noticed this morning that it's started turning black around top edge where it meets the skin, also the nail is all fked and cracked on the edges so I'm guessing I badly stubbed it. Everyone I know who's seen it say's it'll be fine, it'll just drop off and re-grow. But I'm not sure as never had this happen before, I obviously don't want to got to the doctor or hospital and waste their time.

I've attached a picture and wrapped it in spoiler tags as it's not pretty so forgive my ugly toe but what do people think?

Looks like you've bruised under the nail. If it's really sore still you might be able to release the pressure by trepanning the nail with a red hot paperclip. The nail will still fall off but it shouldn't hurt quite as much.

Last time I did similar I left it, but when I cut my nail I clipped something underneath and squirted pus across the room.

Yes this. But be careful when you push the paperclip/needle through as it's quite painful if you push it too far.

I did both of my big toes descending the Whole Enchilada in Moab in October. Both of them blacked up straight away, this week one of them was ready to come off. There wasn't any pain.

I know its really obvious but man alive that hurt. Also when I did mine I got a good 3-4ft high spurt of blood which was quite smart.

Just had to do it, read this and at first thought fk that, no chance, but the pain got very unbearable after a weekend and today of 12 hour shifts. The amount of blood was crazy!

Yes, pin until it was glowing on the hob, didn't go straight in and do it in one hit did it a couple of times whilst reheating the pin so not to puncture the skin underneath and yes, it stunk
