Hi there

I created this topic because I want to buy a car.
I am 23 years old and I need your help to chose one car from the 3 models.
initially I started to look at e92 models , 330d to be more specific, I preffer manual gearboxes
I am planing to keep this car for at least 5 years so if you could help to decide which is best choice for me I would be very glad.

On second thoughts I started also looking for the 335d because I have read on forums and reviews that there are no much diferences between the 2 engines, I think how I live in the city the automatic gearbox would make more sense and when I want to have some fun I could use the wheel shifts....

I also like the new serie 5 f10 models.... I would preffer a 3.0 diesel angine but my budget can only afford a 520d

I have marked 3 cars, all from private sellers, no dealers.
Till now I only saw the 330d , made a test drive and I loved it.
The car has 2 issues : first one is when I touch the accelerator makes a duck sound ... I searched on the internet and the problem seems to be the pressure converter.
The 2 issue is that the car smokes some white smoke , the owner told me it is the DPF doing regeneration, there where no clouds or nothing excessive clouds of smokes ... like a cold petrol engine when coldstarting...
The car has around 215000km....

I didn't saw the other cars yet...

I will leave here the cars info

  • BMW 330d January/2007 Manual gearbox 231hp 215000km 2owners
  • BMW 335d mai/2008 286hp 350000km 1 owner
  • BMW 520d November/ 2010 184hp 290000km 1owner
I'm more into the e92....

You’d be quackers to get the 330d that sounds like a duck.
If you like manual , city or not city, the 335d auto might bore / frustrate you.
Can’t you find another manual 330d? You would be advised to try a few of any model before you buy.
520d inmho opinion is underpowered.
Stick with 6 cylinders.

Thanks for answer , in my country there are just a few 330d and 335d....

Only 1 of each enters in my budget....

The 335d has the m packet and its 2k cheapper then the 330d....

I think I will go for the 330d ... has less km...

If you’re looking at the only two 330d and 335d that come into your budget, there’s a fair chance they’re ropey, raked out examples that would be a headache. You’d be as well spending your money on a nice 320d, you’ll not enjoy owning the six pot cars if they’re ropey examples

Your type of driving should dictate what car you get - lots of short journeys can result in expensive DPF issues.

Consider a 635d. Little difference in MPG, lots of difference in what you get. £45k car vs £70k car. Simple really. Very similar running costs as well. I know someone who did this and has no regrets whatsoever, the E63 is one of the best cars BMW made.

An auto diesel for a 5 year term for a young guy who appears to enjoy driving? Can't see that lasting long until you get very bored.

If your not doing big miles why not a 6 cyl manual petrol, 325 or 330 E92 would surely do fine, and may cause you less headaches than short journeys in a diesel.
