2013 MSport 520d auto
Discussion
Hi all, about to purchase a 2013 msport auto 520. 67k miles, serviced with BMW regularly. I am having cold feet at the last minute due to timing chain issues. I am reading some scary stories online. What are people's thoughts on this particular model and its timing chain? (car was built in Nov 12 and reg in early 2013)
The main PUMA changes came in 2011 although still stories of noisy (not snapping) chains in 2012 think you will be fine
EDIT found this one from 2012,,,never seen later problems https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

Don't worry, just change oil & filter every 10k maximum in your ownership - these long service intervals exacerbated the issue (ignore the dash countdown, do you own regime)
67k! That mileage is nothing on a N47 20d engine - I regularly see 200-300k on these engines.
I would be more worried about other car ancillaries (EGR/Turbo/Water pumps/dampers) all more likely than the chain - the internet is full of horror stories, not many people go online to say how well there car is running
I run an N47 2012 3 series on 100k now, and have owned one in the past, they are good engines, but they need a little more maintenance i.e engine oil.
