Is my fuel pump on it's way out? (E92 330d)
Discussion
Hello all,
Hard as the internet diagnostic is; I'm going to give it a go
I've had a faint but noticeable odd blowing/whirring noise on my 110k 330d for a few weeks. I first noticed it after brimming the tank with BP Ultimate. It seems to be coming from the drivers door area, it's subtle but a few oddities:
1. It sounds like someone blowing over a bottle, almost a whine - really hard to pinpoint, but you can hear it inside and out
2. Very light revs produce a change in tone like a whoosh - super light so I don't think enough to get a turbo noise?
3. Aircon is off, so it's not that
4. Park, Drive etc make no difference to the sound
5. You can hear it stationary with the engine running, so it's not tyres, alignment or any of that stuff
6. No fault codes or any change in running at all
The weirdest bit - it's consistently louder on a full tank - the last 100 miles of fuel I can barely hear anything at all - Brimming it brings to noise back, hence my preoccupation with the fuel pumps - I think I have one in the tank (which also moves fuel left and right?) and maybe one under the passenger side?
It's been like this for 3 or four tankfuls now - any ideas folks..?
