That's my point. Is it strange?

No it's not, it is people now feeding off the fat of the land given to them by people who fought for it.

I honestly don't think that those who fought it WW1 or 2 knew YouTube was coming at all, so you're wrong. I suppose it's possible there were a few very forward thinking people of that age who may have made an educated guess but I personally don't think it was the predominate reason that anyone fought in those wars.

I believe the wars were actually fought to aid the development and realism of future multiplayer computer games like Call of Duty and Worms.

I found it strange.
And you don't have to fight to say that.

Are you guys for real? My family actually fought in this. Flippant comments, not really welcome.

Have you been smoking crack?

What on earth has our ancestors fighting wars got to do with successful individuals in the present day?

Or should people only be financially successful if they are doing things you approve of?

You need to explain your thoughts on this matter a bit better than you have already attempted.

He seems to think the kid is the only person on earth who's got rich since the end of the war(s).

What a bizarre thread.. I now feel mightily ashamed of myself for owning an Audi and Bosch appliances. That’s not what the wars were fought for!

I'm sorry but I don't understand what making money on Youtube has to do with fighting in either of the World Wars

Its sad that such an interesting thread title is just about one person's envy of another.

I thought the question was going to be 'What set of circumstances/coincidences/luck enabled your parents, grandparents and great grandparents to survive the two world wars, so you now exist?'

In my case, my grandfather was fortunate to the very bloody early part* of the First World War on the Western Front by being posted to Italy to support them against the Austro-Hungarians. He was on the Western Front by the time of the 1918 German Spring offensive, and was taken prisoner. Fortunately he was up against German Troops fresh from the Eastern Front, as they took prisoners, whilst the ones who had been on the Western Front for the duration of the war, did not.

  • Our local regiment, the 1st Battalion Royal West Surreys, was reduced from over 1000 men to 30, in one day on 31st October 1914. Most of the remaining 30 were cooks and other non-combatants.
My Father was too young to serve in the Second World War by a matter of months, although his three brothers did serve.

.

It would be good to hear what factors enabled other PHers parents to be survivors.

Yeah, its not on - my grandfather died in the concentration camps.

He fell out of his guard tower and the prisoners kicked him to death.

Struggling to see the problem. Those people entertain others (I personally find none of them interesting and many of them I'd probably put in the "tt" category). People love them. YouTube is happy for them to do what they do as they make money. Win-win.

Your grandparents fought in the war so people have the freedom to do what they want. It appears that you would ban this kind of thing, so your grandparents fought against your ideology. smile

Not sure if you're serious but anyone alive today from the countries involved will have had family in the wars.

What's that got to do with this child and his toy videos?
