£13k, what car you going to get?
Discussion
If you had 13k to spend on a car that was purely for summer, as in now till end of september, what would you get. Car needs to be relatively practical and i cant afford to loose much, or anything at all on the car.
I was thinking orginally a Impreza P1, Evo. I wanted something fun to drive but with relatively little costs? and no worries about breaking down.
Any ideas?
Thanks guys

Thought about one of those. I race a 968cs in porsche club championship, and I was thinking about a 968, so any problems with the race car i can pillage parts off of it. Trouble is ill end up with no road car if i start doing that.
Porker is nice car, but i reckon after summer could take a bit of a sting. just ashame i cant get one of those Ferrari 430 thingy's, I might even make money...
ahh they do say... money makes money!!

The supe costs more to run than the Chimaera I suggested, if you are ona budget/want a cheap runner, the supra ain't for you.
eg:
Just had the timing and ancillery belts changed, plus both rear wishbones = £790. To say I was not impressed would be the understatemnet of the year.
Try that on an NSX mate

Lancia delta integrale EVO2.
For around that money you could get a low milage, with high back leather. brilliant cars, gorgeouse handling and the last one i had i sold to make £1500 profit. (i only put 2000 miles on it) but still they don't depreciate at all. Walkers at north allerton have a nice selection although as usual private is always your best bet for a bargain.

If you want something practical, not sure if this is your kind of thing but why not go for something like a 02/03 Civic Type-R
? You can pick them up for around £13k for a good example, very quick and as they are newer you have more of a guarantee with parts being easily available. This might be a bit too practical, but (from a 15yr olds point of view) they are the dogs balls of hot hatches (bar maybe a Golf R32, but a bit out of your price range).
I would imagine that you would get similar performance from a Civic Type R to a Supra, or you might find a chipped version. Or of course, if you really want to splash out go for the Civic Type R 25th (or maybe 50th?) Anniversary edition - already has racing seats, blacked out windows and looks totally mint!
Hope this helps! Wait a minute, im supposed to be revising for my GCSE's....

Just thought I'd add my 2p. The P1 isn't fun to drive. Very very fast, yes, but not fun to drive. Get an Elise or VX220 would be my suggestion. At that price point you're not going to loose much money (although they will be harder to sell on than mainstream cars), and you'll have fun in them.

You Probably dont agree, but i really like the clio 182 and im sure they are fairly fun and practicle to drive are they not? Im also sure you would be able to pick one up for around the 13k region?
You can, a new one at that, but it'll fall apart within 6 months, and the driving position will have you seeing a chiropractor for 6 months after!!!
Very nice car, and if you want a warranty it's that or an 18mth old CTR...the Clio edges the CTR for involvement and driving "fun", the CTR trounces the Clio on build quality, reliability, and powertrain.
For 13k you'll get a nice 50,000 miles plus P1 or a lovely late model low mileage Uk EVO 6. If you only keep it for 6 months depreciation will be minimal.
There is very little else that will give you that level of driver excitement for the money..
I back this up with my recent list of cars
Evo 6
Pro Drive Impreza
944 turbo cab
VX220 non turbo
Integra R
Cosworth
BMW M3
BMW 330
The EVO and the P1 are by far the most fun of all the above. Elise and VX220 give you sports car fun but will fall to bits and are totally impractical to use.
