Hi all

I’m in two minds about a bmw 320d efficient dynamics , 2012
It’s done 95k and fsh to 75k since then it’s had oil changes by an independent garage.
It’s priced at £6500 which seemed cheap but after looking about is probably about right.
It’s hpi clear
Would anyone think there are should be any alarm bells about getting an f30 with this mileage? Any horror stories? I’d need to have it minimum 3-4 years and do approx 13k a year
Any advice appreciated

Halogen headlights are pityful in them, you can’t see anything when driving at night - make sure it’s got the xenon options ticked.

Your going to be putting near on 50k onto a car that's already close to 100k. If you are expecting cheap trouble free motoring then think again. Instead put your money into a much newer lower mileage Ford Focus.

What will the value be in 4 years with 150k on the clock?
1.5k?

Yeah but...a focus isn't directly comparable. Why not buy a new 125cc motorbike and get 100mpg and save a couple of grand?

Id say there is a decent chance he could run that for quite a while and not incur a major cost. People in the UK are unusually terrified of 100k mile cars. In Europe 95k is not considered a high mileage and a 320d will be a much better car than a focus.

95K isn't anything like high mileage for a 21st Century diesel - but given it has the N47 engine I might be worried about the potential cam-chain issues.

I had a 123d from less than 20 miles to over 81K with the same engine, but twin-turbos and no big issues other than a battery and starter motor (probably due to stop-start, so turn it off)!

But you might want to google "BMW N47 cam-chain" before you commit - that's one of the reasons I sold mine!

Mileage wouldn’t put me off, the old Monde is currently on 147k and I would happily drive it anywhere. However a £700 Mondeo can be weighed in for £300, a modern diesel with 100k on I wouldn’t waste money on, the potential for a large bill is much higher than on a £6500 Ford Focus that would be newer more reliable and more comfortable. If it wasn’t for diesels breaking i’d Have to find something else to do.

Not sure where the mentality of cars become uneconomic after 100k from.

These 320d are genuinely good motors - there’s a reason why you see so many up and down motorways.

OP, that seems an OK deal to me as long as you look after it, it should be ok with no major issues in your ownership.

My present car, V60 D3 63 reg is on 112k and feels likes it done half the miles.

TBH I don't treat it sympathetically but it keeps on going and averages 52mpg.

(So get a V60 :-) )
