Wanting your ashes spread abroad
Discussion
No idea but i know you need paperwork from the burners before you can get it on a plane, so couple of years ago, as we didnt have any, took the risk and drove down to Monte Casino to scatter the MIL's ashes at the farmhouse she grew up in before the war (now there was a source of some very interesting stories)
When we got there and opened the lid, there was a small packet of pure white power in it !!!!!
'apparently' the ashes of her cat (hummmm), thank god we didn't get stopped

How about a beach on a windy day ?
I am not that fussed myself and think it get a bit over reverent, its some dust, its a nice idea but have seen people falling out over where to scatter ashes, or scattering in several different places.
However,
My mum was telling me about the lady next door, her husband died, and for some reason he had nieces ashes as she had died some years previously, he had kept hold of them and never done anything with them much to his wifes annoyance, so when she was clearing his stuff she found them and just pitched them in a wheelie bin, which struck me as a bit off !

My Mums mum kept the ashes of my Mums Dad in her wardrobe for 11 years after he died. We are convinced she would talk to them from time to time of course. (They were married for 70+ years!) When she died, my mum took the ashes of her dad to the garden of the crematorium and scattered them both together. TBH It's just Beckenham Crem, since it was near the nursing home she spent her last couple years in. No real connection to that one.
Years previously they'd lived in the council tower blocks in Roehampton (Alton Estate) overlooking Richmond Park. But the Royal Parks don't allow scattering, since it upsets the local wildlife balance. Which makes complete sense and if you DO love the place you'd know not to upset anything for selfish gains.
Personally I've often said end of Hanger Straight at Silverstone, just before the Braking point for the F1 cars
Maybe use me to absorb some spilt oil

My advice - stand sideways onto the wind. Standing with it at your back creates a nasty turbulence in front of you which results in the ashes of your dad ending up in your hair, mouth, eyes, clothes.
It was a bit windy when we spread my mother's ashes on her father's grave (as per her wishes). Did get a little sit-com-esque. One of the funniest scenes in Big Lebowski.. (1:40 onwards )

I personally think the location of the scattering should be more about the people left behind than the dead one.
Somewhere special that the scatterer chooses reminds them of that person or wishes to visit regularly etc..
I wouldn't want scattering my of ashes to be a burden to perform or to visit in the future.

On my grandfathers side they have a family plot in Warsaw so when he died it seemed the thing to pop him in there as well. This was nearly 30 years ago but I do recall a trip to the consulate where the ashes were inspected and then sealed in an official bag which my mother was then allowed to travel with.
