Hi All,

Hoping for some advice. Noticed my clutch was feeling quite “gritty” while changing gear ever since doing a track day last week.

This evening when I got home I decided to experiment, I pressed the clutch all the way in, put it in first gear, raised the revs to 4000rpm and let go of the accelerator. As the revs fell, it made an awful graunching/ grinding sound as it passed 2500 rpm and paused there before falling back to normal idle speed. Bear in mind I had the clutch depressed the entire time.

Any ideas? The cars on 68700 Miles.

Thanks
Cj

Maybe the release bearing is breaking down, but I can't think why that would be speed dependent and also no reason for a track day to provoke that. Do you get similar symptoms if you rev the engine clutch down out of gear or clutch up out of gear?

These used to wear engine thrust bearings - have a look for excessive crank float
