I really fancy a tracer 700, insurance wants £900 so looked at a MT-07 for which i got quoted £540.

i commute all year around, unless its snowed, or really icy (and i mean really, most of my route is well gritted bus routes and dual carridgeway.)

would you pay the extra for the weather protection, or would you buy the naked, stick a bigger screen on it and some hand guards?

thanks!

You might get a bit chilly riding around naked wink

A more serious response is that it depends on your type of commute, if you do a lot of dual carriageways and motorway then fairings are very welcome.

That said, I see numerous naked bikes being commuted on.

I chose a VFR because I commute mainly on the motorway.

I do 40 miles each way on a 690 Duke, all year round like you. I don't find the lack of protection an issue at all. I do have heated grips and hand guards though.

I bought a new Versys last year and couldn't bear the wind noise from the screen, which blew all the wind and rain into my neck.

I am considering a Tracer 700 funnily enough, I sat on one at the NEC show and the screen is quite small so might be ok.

Of course, when I were a lad, we only had naked bikes and commuted on them anyway.

In my day, it was called "going to work..."
