Curious here, a thought popped into my mind t'other day.

How would things look today if Germany and the AustroHungarian empire had managed to win WW1?

Obviously the biggest change would've been no WW2 due to adolf - would Stalin have caused one instead? Would the Japanese have been as imperialistic had they been on the losing side? What about Franco and Mussolini, would their views have gained traction?

Would the we be less advanced or more or just the same? Would there be s German empire/commonwealth?

The Germans would have committed atrocities on more nations than just the Belgians.
Their occupying armies taught the Nazis a thing or two.

From what I have read the Germans, by the standards of the day, weren't actually too appalling (mind you reading what our TinTin loving lot got up to in the Congo it's not a high bar)

Depends if you mean they won before sending Lenin back into Russia to drive the revolution, in which case potentially Stalin never came about, and you continue having the two great monarchies in place.

The Ottoman empire may have survive long enough for the world to wake up to the importance of oil, and how much they had in their territories.

Who knows what would have happened then?

It could have had an impact on motorsport. Without the military technology ban imposed on Germany, they mightn't see the need to plough so much money into racing engines that might just 'happen' to have an fighter plane application.

There'd be no Mercedes or Auto Union teams of the 1930s.

No state funding for Auto Union might mean no modern day Audi.

We'd have some kind of Federal superstate with power vested in a German leadership and puppets of French leaders.

Wasn't that Mussolini's doing? biggrin

Think if the Germans won WW1, they would have still attempted to expand and have control of Eastern Europe - even without Nazi ideology.

With the presumption they're militarily and politically better off than the Russians after victory they dig deep into the East and perhaps make further gains with little resistance. Leaving the U.S. and Germany as the world's two superpowers.

Would Germany go on to make atomic weapons first? One hand you could say yes - no war=more, less pressing time and the fact they wouldn't lose their top scientific talent to America. One hand maybe no? If bar skirmishes in Russia there's no world conflict anymore would there remain an impetus?

Love alternate history; there are no right or wrong - within reason - answers.

If there had been a Germany/Austro-Hungarian WW1 victory, by default there would have been then no Stalin led Soviet Union, and chances are there would not have been a facist Spain/Italy either wink

Interesting one regarding the Japanese though, very possibly they would not have been as imperialistic, but they might still have been to counter the Chinese?

You just can't predict with any accuracy at all though can you?

Life is just unpredictable.

In an alternate universe where Germany did win WWI and the question was posed 'what if Germany hadn't won WW1?'

For a start would it be called WW1, would it still be the Great War?

Anyway, if I was to respond - well I think if Germany had lost then an obscure wounded painter Corporal would found a political movement that would lead to genocide another world war and defeat for the Germans a second time.......you'd think I'd been at the schnapps!
