Hi all,

So as the title suggests I am interested in purchasing a 2014 Insignia (138bhp 2l diesel) which has 110k miles for about 4.5k. Presumably this means the car has spent its time on motorways and thus been under less stress, however even with a good service history would this type of mileage/car be worth a miss? Is their common issues with insignias at this mileage that are out of the norm and if so what should I look out for?

Thanks

Have a read at the last 3 or 4 back issues of "Car mechanics" magazine , they did a feature on this very car !

Always buy a car on condition not mileage (its a young car), if its been looked after and has good service history, why not, but try and haggle it down a bit more smile

Best thing you can do is go and give the car a good looking over. Take it for a good test drive with some motorway or DC and some town driving. Check for good ability to track in a straight line, no excessive knocks or rattles, quiet brakes, nice steady idle etc.
Check the service history is up to date. Don’t know if these have a timing belt or chain, but if it’s a belt worth checking it’s done.

Age or mileage are not always a good indicator and I have bought older cars that have been looked after that have served me well, and newer cars that have let me down due to abuse at the hands of former owners!

I'd be intrigued to know what your criteria is that a 110k £4500 diesel insignia is the answer

Have a look in my profile, I ran one for 3 years, 100k.

Never again.

Brother in law also ran a high mileage one for a few months until the engine went pop and it was scrap.

I am never put off by mileage. It's how the car's been driven and maintained that matters.

As you say, a car that's done 25k miles per year has probably spent most of its time on the motorway, which is no bad thing in my opinion.

My first thought on seeing a diesel saloon (and yes I know the Insignia technically isn't one) with very high miles is minicab. So check for signs of that.

Avoid the insignia at all costs....
