Post-Brexit - Income Generation
Discussion
Just been mulling this one over for the last few weeks, having spent some time on the Mother-continent.
The French have us pay tolls for the straight-line runs (and then hide in bushes waiting to jump out at every UK-registered car that they see going 1mph under the speed limit to say we've been doing X-kph over, demanding to see our Hi-Vis jackets and a millionty breathalysers in our ashtrays).
The Austrians have us pay their road tax for the length of our stay - can't argue with that.
The Swiss have us pay a full 12 months road tax on the point of entry - a bit naughty if you ask me, but ahh well...
Shouldn't we do the same post Brexit? On-the-spot fines, paying road tax? I can't see it putting Johnny-European off coming over here, after all - we all go over there in droves each year for our jollies, having those rules applied to us??

Intimating that this sort of thing should be introduced "post-Brexit" seems to suggest that the reason we don't do it presently is, somehow, the fault of the EU. You earlier gave examples of EU countries who impose the very rules you wish to have introduced.
The success of the wholly illogical Leave campaign is becoming less and less of a mystery with every passing day.
Much like lots of things blamed on Europe, we're free to do such things this very day, if there is political will. There is no political will. What there is instead is a small, insignificant island inhabited by a large number of people happier to live poorly and blame "foreigners" or "the elite" (whatever the hell that is supposed to mean) than to strive for better themselves.
Anyway, this is meant to be the fun bit of the site, so can I perhaps get us off to a suitable start by asking for pictures of your wife, asking you to hammer sausages into something (the aforementioned wife, perhaps) or to chuck a can of Red Bull at someone/thing.

Or, if the OP happens to find a seemingly abandoned TVR Tuscan on their land, be sure to keep us updated on how it goes.slipstream 1985 said:
people are bumping their gums about a hotel tax saying it will put of foreign tourists. The ammount £1 per room per night. We are a nation of f

Not heard about this before, and not sure if you mean that EU places are rumoured to be putting their price up by £1 a night or if its UK hotels doing the same.
king pushovers.Either way, it's a load of b
ks, I think I speak for the majority of people when I say that when looking at a hotel, I judge it on reviews / recommendations rather than whether it is £50/night or £51/night.Or £1,500/night vs £1,501.
If you are in the position to be staying in any hotel in the first place its totally insignificant.

Not true. You only need the Swiss pass for their motorways. I drove to the Swiss border was about to turn back when the customs man asked me if I wanted to come into Switzerland. I told him that I didn't want to pay a year's tax for 30 minutes in his country. He told me that I was welcome to use the roads for free, just not the motorways. Lovely country.OzzyR1 said:

If I'm honest, I'm amazed that the likes of Cornwall haven't tried to do this already. They are one of the poorest areas in the UK and rely almost solely on the summer tourist trade. They might really feel the pinch if we leave the EU and don't get the benefit of the large amount of investment poured into the area over the last decade.
Doubt the average family of four visiting would notice £1/person/week - its only £28/week extra. Most are paying £1K+/week for the hotel/accommodation during summer season anyway.
