Just remebered this shot from last night...



What do you think that is at the top of the picture?
I was thinking shooting star? Satalite?

But its strange how its has spots of light then a think streak, suggests that something was flahsing, could be a place i suppose but don't remeber seeing one??

Probably a meteor breaking up in the atmosphere. You're lucky to catch one.

If you're interested in photographing these there are "showers" which appear regularly (Perseid, Leonid etc). These are often disappointing to the naked eye because of cloud cover in the UK...

Yes I have often viewed these different showers, have missed a few because of cloud cover though..

What exposure time was this taken with? The flashes appear to regular! I would guess a plane.

Yes they do seem rather regular, don't remeber a plane, but I could be wrong, does seem the most likely explanation.

I would say a plane. We have a "timelapse" shot of Sydney Harbour that we bought off the photographer. He showed us the same effect - said he was going to clone it out as an anomoly then realised it was a plane and left it in. It's so subtle that it needs to be pointed out and it a bit of a curio.

well it's definitely something with a regular flashing light, so I guess it has to be a plane

I agree. In fact if you boost up the brightness on the image you can see a faint red dot besides each white one - presumably a tail light ?

There are a couple of background stars which made the trail look irregular at first, at least on my dodgy work monitor...

I'm sure that they are plane lights.

Took these last September in the south of France. Left the camera on 30 second exposures, and got this
