I fancy building something. I do enjoy the satisfaction of putting in a fair few hours of work and seeing a nice result.
I can't build a kit car - being in a first floor flat with no garage - as much as I'd love to.
So, PH collective, what else is there that will give me many hours of building pleasure, a worthwhile result, and won't require too much skill?
Oh, and won't put off any ladies I lure back to my bachelor pad so no glass horse kits!
Cheers

i use knex in a challenge we do
Used to play with that many years ago when it first came out - I was working Saturdays for a toyshop at the time. Good fun, but I could never think of what to build with it (don't have the imagination I used to when I had meccano as a child). Thanks for the offer though.

Not sure about the boat. The RC cars on that site look good but how much building is involved? Anyone know much about RC car kits?
part of my job is to come up with challenges for the kids to do, im ashamed to say im quite good at it. could always send you some challenges too if you like, theres no charge!
i have a feeling knex is american, the lady i deal with works for hasbro i think. its pretty cool stuff though. most of my house is built out of it and then plastered over.

RC car kits are a POP
Really, a monkey could do it.
I recently bought a Tamiya King Hauler and tanker trailer. There is a video on that site too.
I enjoyed making that and it looks pretty good...it's a fair size. I got all the electronic jiggery pokery to go with it for lights, sounds, vibrating cab etc. I bought the modern Merc truck from the same series for my Dad at Christmas and he loved it.
They're not cheap, but you can get them on ebay from sellers in Hong Kong for a lot less. That's where I got mine from.
I've always fancied making a proper wooden ship kit. A galleon with all the rigging and stuff, but I think it's a bit finickity for me.
Depending on sapce how about an r/c plane? An old warbird, perhaps?

RC Planes can be interesting to make if you get a proper one and not one of those Almost Ready To Fly jobs though. Mine's tail warped after being neglected for a couple of years though and now it does a barrel roll straight after take off and lands again immediately... upside down normally.

Ahh but thats where the fun is.
Build it, about a day or so.
Run it.
Not quick enough.
Now upgrades.
I ended up with a carbon chassis, titanium drive shafts, various uprated motors depending on surface etc etc bloody etc.
Its not a fire and forget thing...
Didn't realise they were as upgradable as my Tiv...
What would you recommend as a good starter that can be upgraded? Any good sites for info?
