You can’t do a course as you’ve done one within 3 years and 85 is pushing it for a court job I’m afraid.
Courses for phones are different to speed ones. I can't be bothered to search for the speeding guidelines but I'm sure 85 is just within it. No idea what you mean by court job, can still be dealt with a FPN up to like 90 something mph too.

In fact, the post above yours conveniently tells us the boundaries, so yes, OP does qualify.

A friend at work got caught speeding on a motorway in a 50mph zone at the end of some roadworks (he was a regular on the motorway, and after 18 months of passing the end of the 50mph limit at the first junction after the roadworks, late one night he failed to spot that the end of the 50 zone had been moved further down the motorway, and he sped up too soon - Got done for 58mph).

He received his NIP and S172 through the post, sent them off and was offered a motorway awareness course.

Being the honest guy he is, he got in touch with the authority involved and told them that he had been on one of their speed awareness courses within three years of the offence, for speeding in a 30mph zone (37mph as I recall).

They got back in touch with him, and told him that the speed awareness course and the motorway awareness course were different courses, so he still qualified.

We'd never heard of the motorway awareness course, so looked it up, and yes it is classified as a different course.

We figured it would be the same course again, at the same location, as it was the same authority, but he discovered they carry out the motorway awareness course at a different location.

So even courses for speeding can be different!

That is a nasty one though - all the roadworks are finished, the motorway is clear and then there is another camera a few hundred yards down the road catching you in the (still) 50 zone. Never understand the final one.

Wonder what they can teach you on a motorway course though? Not like there are hazards such as pedestrians on the road and everyone is going in the same direction.

It's mad, but great at the same time. Merseyside policy do ones for phones, red lights, speeding, and a few others IIRC. Taking them obviously avoids the points, and you can take all of them (obviously not doing each one more than once).

Shouldn't be able to do them for phones anymore. Not since it went to six points and a £200 fine.

I went to one in Kent (Swanley though got caught going to Goodwood) for 84mph in a 70.
Didn't learn much but it was in quite a nice setting, the cutoff for speed awareness is 85mph afaik.

Stuck rigidly to a temporary 50mph motorway limit this morning but as the end of limit sign came into view a few car lengths ahead I & most around me accelerated & I was back to 70mph quickish - BUT hopefully well after the sign. It just seems so tedious to wait until you're alongside an end of limit sign before regaining speed but I accept there's no excuse for not doing so. And driving was so enjoyable & relaxing once - 1950 no doubt.

I work for Kent. It will be a Speed Awareness Course or Motorway Awareness Course offer. The mobile phone course that you have completed won't effect the offer of a SAC. Mobile phone courses are no longer run in Kent since the change in legislation. The offer of a SAC/Motorway course will be subject to an eligibility check

ACPO guidelines for 70mph are, Diversion Course between 79-86.

The limit is extended beyond any roadworks and danger to people on the site because drivers accelerate well before the upping of the limit. Stick to the speed until you reach the sign and its like going backwards. It seems strange that drivers are able to see the derestriction sign from a long distance away, but not a sudden slowing of vehicles at half the distance.

The motorway awareness course has a focus on how smart motorways operate. The one I did was very smart motorway for the first half then went into the standard speed awareness stuff with a variant of the role play.

There were a few people smart like me who had some awareness of smart motorways, but the general awareness of them was almost non-existent.

Bert (smart, but not smart enough not to be there in the first place)

Do read the thread properly though as thats been pointed out already and I can’t help it if you’ve had a bad day and feel you need to have a go at someone.

In fact your other posts today point to significant anger issues.

My post was correct for around here anyway, clearly not Kent.

I don't think you are correct regarding the fact that there are different courses now which you can go on within the 3 year period as I think that's national.

Correct. Completion of a mobile phone course is absolutely no barrier to a speed awareness course offer. Further, in England and Wales there is no place that 85/70 is “pushing it for a court job.” 86/70 is actually the upper limit for a speed awareness course and otherwise well within the threshold for a fixed penalty offer from the police (upper limit is 95/70). This case isn’t anywhere near “a court job.”

No Anger issues mate and had quite a good day, thanks for asking. The problem I do have is people posting rubbish without the slightest bit of knowledge, research or statute to back it up and it does absolutely zilch to help the OP's original question. you can't even resist adding another incorrect snippet above suggesting the guidlines for your part of the world are at odds with everywhere else

Please let us know which part of the world and also your source for that gem
