A few questions.

I understand that it is possible to retrofit the Sport Wheel with Paddleshift to a 997.

Can this wheel be fitted to any 997, and will all functionality previously available be available.

Can fitting this wheel to a lower specced 997 add functionality; for instance cruise?

Will retrofitting a Porsche Sport Design Wheel effect a Porsche warranty?

Which Gen 997 do you have?

Gen2 PDK cars its straight swap, Gen1 cars its not as easy or even possible I believe.. Of course you lose the multi-function buttons etc, as the sports design wheel does not have these. No programming required neither.

I'm sure an OPC will fit you one and the warranty should remain... depends how friendly they are I guess.

If you're handy with the tools, its a 10 minute job. Just remember to disconnect the battery for +30 mins before you disconnect the airbag.

And no it won't add cruise control. That's not part of the wheel.

Thanks Rich

I'm in the market for a 997 PDK & a couple I have seen don't have the Sport Design Steering Wheel which I favour.

Hi Nigel
I have a late 2009 997S Gen.2 PDK with sport design paddle shift with very high spec. PSE Sport+ sports seats and lots more
I would consider selling I am also on the south coast so you are welcome to come and view even if mine is not the one for you. What budget do you have?

Cruise is dealer retrofit otpion.

Sport Design wheel looks so much better than the multifunction wheel. Got the OPC to fit one when I bought my manual 997 GTS

Yes you can fit sport design wheel to the later gen 2 cars as it used the same air bag. You can't fit it to an easy 997.2 which has the triangle airbag.

Cruise control is also an easy retro fit.

(I replied to your other thread about Targas!) Feel free to PM me any specific questions.
I did this swap. I went from multi-function to paddle-shift. If you plan to do any track days in a PDK, the buttons will drive you mad (well they did me). When I braked hard, I found myself gripping the steering wheel tighter which usually resulted in me pushing one of the gear change buttons which made me change *up* just before a corner! The paddles are so much better. It's no great shakes losing the volume control and the other slider. Unless you've got very short arms, the PCM is close at hand in the cabin!
As another poster has pointed out, the cruise control is an additional/fourth stalk (bottom right). It can be retrofitted.
997.2 Targa 4S PDK is an excellent all-around car. I would have mine still if I hadn't become hooked on track days!
Good luck.

I've just bought a '10 997.2S with sports chrono. Having read multiple reviews beforehand, I found the factory fitted multifunction wheel was very fiddly on test drive. It didn't take a moment's thought to swap for the paddle shift wheel. It's far more user friendly. I also think it looks better.
