Hi

Just had a NIP for 38 in a 30, from a scamera van. Bang to rights it was on a long straight exiting a rural village and i was past the houses/turnings but before the national speed limit sign , classic place to get done grrrr.

Annoyed as I dont see how the van is contributing to safety where it was located but hey ho.

What am I gonna get? already got 3 points 3 years ago (been driving 21 years at 30k a year so not doing awfully as far as lapses of concentration go)

Thanks in advance

Possibly a course, or 3 points and £100 fine. Way too low for it to go to court.

Eligible for a SAC at that speed - limit + 10% + 9 mph - provided you meet the other criteria.

When was the previous speeding conviction exactly ?

SAC if you want it, or a Fixed Penalty (£100 and 3 points) if you don’t. That of course assumes you reply in the timeframes allowed.

Does everyone have an angle from which to moan when they get caught these days?

You speed, you get caught, you take the points & fine or SAC and you move on.

I really do not understand why people feel the need to post about it!

They were out in the dark near me (A51 at Wardle, between Tarporley and Nantwich) the other evening - not seen that before.

In a 40 that used to be NSL, with the van in a layby around a bend and as the roads drops away encouraging speed and not easy to spot the van until too late. Certainly a place were a lot of people would be doing 40ish.

Spending more time staring at his speedo and less time observing the environment around him?

Then he shouldn’t be on the road if he’s not competent enough to judge his speed, or hold it reasonably steady using his right foot for more than a few seconds at a time.

If you were ‘bang to rights’, and it is a 30mph limit, how is it a ‘scamera’ van?

Because of the location of the van maybe ? Just before a national speed limit section on a long straight ?

The police were actually out with a speed detector on the road that passes our house the other evening.

I was quite pleased. The road is a residential one with a 30 limit, but has a lot of issues with idiots doing way more than 30.

We had two crashes outside the house the other month. One involved a woman coming around a corner too fast and slamming into the back of someone waiting for a vehicle to turn off the road. The other involved another woman heading around the same corner too fast, losing control and wiping out a lamppost.

It's a shame the police couldn't be there for much longer than a couple of hours. No sooner had they gone and the idiocy started again.

OP was speeding. Van caught him speeding. How is that a scam?

If he was doing 30 mph and got a ticket, that's a scam.

I think it will be 4 hours of understanding about speed in the right places and caution in the wrong ones.
Cost about £100, but no three points.
And finding out that virtually the entire class don't know the speed limits.
And finding out what speed you will hit a child if you were doing 36 mph when you braked, when you would have stopped in time if you were doing 30.
And a whole host of other useful stuff.
Open your mind and you will learn something - I had been driving for over 40 years and I did.

I got my frustration and need to speed out of my system by doing 125 mph the following day after my SAC.
Legally.
On a track day at Cadwell Park.
I find track days are a brilliant place to satisfy my need for speed.
Makes me a steadier driver on the roads.
That 37 in a 30 was my only offence since 1986.
