oil pick up prob

ive chopped my alfa for a cinqucento sporting,runs great but the oil light takes a few seconds to go out after its been standing for some time,when doing fast right handers or under heavy breaking the light can flicker.
i reconed it was a pickup prob as the level was right,added a litre of oil and light dosnt come on when it shouldnt.
dropped the sump expecting to find the pick up pipe cracked/loose but all seemes in order,just replaced the seal.any other ideas please?????

In my very limited experience the engines simply dont last. However, my experience is based upon my friends one, which he ran into the back of a lorry, then after it was repaired there was the time when he drove it for a few weeks with a ruptured fuel line spraying directly onto the battery, and when I opened the bonnet to fix this for him the entire engine block was coated in oil. Last seem at 55k miles with the oil pressure light coming on at warm idle...

So basically, I have no useful input. Beats working!

how are you measuring the oil level with a dipstick
it sounds as if you are running low on oil allthe time have you done an oil change know was the filter blocked

Sounds about right. My only other point would be that could the old oil have been too visous to put the light out during start up? With it coming on round bends, is the level right now or overfilled? If it is now right, I wouldn't worry much.

i found the prob,some numpty main dealer had "looked after" the car from new,every job they had done(ive got the bills)they cocked up,they had replaced?the oil pump and used bathroom sealer for sump joint???,one screw that holds the halves of the pump together was loose causing it to suck air,corse add a litre of oil and the joint is under the oil level and prob goes away.

Glad it was a cheap fix though!
Shocking really. Yet unfortunately its all too often what we've come to expect from dealers. Its not just Alfa dealers though, I saw a cylinder head wrecked recently due to a Nissan dealers incompetence, and then another dealer kept quite about it when they saw the shoddy workmanship!
