Bookies SP/taking the price.
Discussion
A question for you old school gamblers.
When betting in a betting shop (not online), you can either take the price at the time the bet is made by asking for it at the counter or leave your slip blank and if you win, you get awarded the price at the off.
On a couple of occasions now, I’ve written the price on the slip but not specifically asked to take the price when placing the bet. On both occasions, I’ve been paid out at the higher price when the race started rather than at the lower price which I wrote on the slip.
So, the question is, do you have to specifically ask for the price when placing the bet and you can’t write the price on the slip yourself?

That is best odds guarantee (BOG) which usually applies to horse racing, not all horse races but usually a number of courses during a race day. If you write a price on the slip and the SP is higher you get paid out at the higher price, if the SP is lower you get the price you wrote on the slip.KungFuPanda said:
You're probably right. I know that's the norm for online bets but didn't know they did it in some high street shops. I've only just started using Bet Fred so they probably offer that.
Yes it is offered on the high street by the main stream bookies and some of the indies too I think.Gassing Station | The Lounge | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
