Afternoon, sorted my bike insurance following a laughable renewal quote. The new policy was only £220 so can’t complain (£680 TPO renewal quote!!!) but alongside the normal paperwork (licence check codes, NCB proof and mileage declaration) they’ve also asked for an engineers report written by a member of the Institute of Automotive Engineers (IAEA)

Never been asked this before but was told because the bike was previously Cat-N/D for a few fairing scuffs.

How do I go about doing this? Bike passed its MOT last weekend so is fine but I’m stumped?

Weird they're asking for a CatD - usually they'd only ask for anything if it was a B I believe...

Indeed, the bike was purely cosmetic damage, not even fixed anything and have put up with the fairing scuffs (outs of London theives).

A little googling (mainly their acronym) shows there is no engineer within 10 miles of me (SE London so could be the other side) and the report costs c£100, not worth it on a £220 TPFT policy.

Think they’ll get a call and an ultimatum - arrange to arrange it themselves at their own cost, waive the requirement or refund all monies in full and I’ll take a policy elsewhere for an extra £5. For the latter with it being an arm of flux it may be difficult. Thankfully I was assured on the phone it wasn’t an issue and that they’d assist - it now looks to be a big issue at c50% of the total policy cost so mis-selling....

I'd just cancel and go with the competitor. 14 day cooling off period etc.
