One of my headlight cowlings flew off on a nice drive down the local bypass the other day. I think I will bring my plans to upgrade my headlights forward. I was thinking of going for the Steve Edwards conversion myself but now I think I want a proper mk3 conversion done but would like to get someone to do it relatively locally. I like the central TVR conversion with body coloured pods and clear lenses but can’t seem to find anywhere more local than that.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Thanks, I didn’t know Str8six would do work like that, I thought they were more servicing and mechanical type work?

If you speak to Adrian at Central, he will be able to let you use a courtesy car if you give him plenty of notice

That’s not a bad idea actually. Any idea what the turnaround time is on a central conversion?

Try Fiberon in west Midlands, very close to Central. Their site is down at the no. 01384262211

I can't remember his name, but an extremely helpful chat and is say cheaper than the usual others. I got my mk3 kit from him over 18mths now just can't remember the coat but I do remember it was cheaper- one man band at the time and actually him making them rather than just selling them.

Fiberon were the unit next door to Central TVR in Wordsley before the major fire they had in 2015.

Not sure if they moved to Kingswinford along with Central TVR, or even exist as a separate company any more.

I might be wrong on this but I thought Fiberon made replacement body parts for Aidrian at Central! That was before the fire and I might have understood that wrong anyway!

I had my car re painted at Central before the fire, I’ve been back for a new windscreen since in the new place which has a lot more space. Looked like things were going well when I went back another time for a new dif smile

I’ve contacted Adrian at central about doing the job, I would like to get it done there I think as the work I’ve seen is good, it’s just a fair old drive away, which is ok as he’ll give me a loan car but still a big drive. Just got to sell a kidney to raise the funds now. £828 all fitted and painted. Problem is if I get that done I’m going to want more work done but that’s going to cost me more! Must resist...

Have used the Fiberon kit myself to convert to MK 3 headlights (pod, lens and reflector ) and installed them in around 1.5 days plus a little curing time and making a good pointed line around the lens.

Very pleased with the result, went for light smoke lens, could have painted the pods with rattle cans if not having other work on the car.

Cant remember total cost but seem to recall it would be less than half your budget without need or expense of delivering car.

Am only competent DIY er but took my time, measured twice and cut once

Will post some pics when I am on main computer.

Yeah I’d be interested to see. I’m competent at working on cars, just not so much with bodywork. Plus I have no indoor space for curing etc and I know I’ll mess it up or not do it exactly perfectly which will mean I’ll always wish I had it done properly. But it’s not off the table to diy it

Do they send the car up to them or just use their parts?

They send them up there, I've had my headlights done by them and I'm very happy with the results.

Looks great. Do you mind sharing the cost for the conversion through str8six?

What actually needs cutting......is it the access hole to allow the pod to get through the lense aperture??

Hi Techno

Am now sober and have found the pics.

This is the finished job.

This was the car with the existing pods cut out, as I said the car was being painted so did this work before delivering to the paint shop

The kit came as three components, new pods, VW sealed light units and covers either clear or smoked. The sequence of assembly was - have the pods painted either to match the car or black, attache the sealed light units to the pods with screws careful to get good alignment otherwise the beam will be off, attache the covers to the pods with panel on adhesive or similar and put in a couple of self tappers making sure they are not seen through the cover and let them set overnight. The pods are now complete units, apply panel on adhesive or similar all around the rebate - then jiggle through the hole and bring back up from the inside so that the rebate now bonds onto the inside of the wing - using a pre-sized piece of wood wedge in place from the inner wheel arch to the back of the pod, using the front grill for access (mk1 will be easy than mk2) and let set overnight. Next day using custom fineline tape form an inner and outer line around the pod cover and point with panel on or similar and allow to dry, peel off tape and job done.

If you are looking for a standard cowl I have a pair, see attached which you are welcome to have

Good luck

Thanks very much for the write up! And with regards to the cowls, I am very interested as if I can get one sprayed up it will mean I can do the conversion at a later date as I have many other things to fix! How much do you want for the pair?

Thanks again!
