Good Morning,

I have bought, sold and traded a handful of watches over the last couple of years. Sometimes it has been fun, exciting and frustrating.

I have wanted watches desperately only to find out they have been a disappointment. I have sold watches and quickly doubted my decision and regretted it.

However I am now down to three (third is a Seiko Pressage). The Speedmaster is almost perfect. I think it is so reasonably priced and you can get one today is a credit to Omega. I collected the 15400 Royal Oak a couple of days ago. It has blew me away. Stunning! It’s true the quality feels a step up from Rolex which is a serious compliment. Already I love wearing it and enjoy it because it is not a Rolex (I’m not Rolex bashing but I did sell three over the last two years and tired of the Rolex nonsense) the strap and dial are sensational. The 41mm size is perfect for me. The watch is thin but has enough weight to give a sense of quality. I can only imagine what the Royal Oak chronograph is like. In summery I am very pleased and more importantly content with my watches now. I thought having lots of watches was important as a watch enthusiast but have two is less of a headache and if it is two that you love that is more important.

Merry Christmas.

Sage words there my man

Down to 14 rotate with about 8 leaving and only 2 arriving this year,
Would like to reduce to single figures by the end of next year

But the sales are coming up weeping

Both classic watches - but both quite different. Really nice.

I de-watched (!) this year to two watches only. I just wasn't wearing them, so sold.

I found the same with cars, I was lucky enough to have some interesting sports cars - but they all sort of eclipsed each other in one way or another. So I got down to two and feel more content as a result. smile

I sold a bunch towards the end of the year, with the aim of buying a grail.

Realised if I was prepared to let them go, perhaps I should consider if another watch was the right replacement, given my son’s school fees are eye watering.

Laughing and Grief 1, watches 0 being the upshot.

It started nearly a year ago when I was shopping in London. I went to Watches of Switzerland and a female shop assistant from Newcastle was amazing with me. She basically let me try on any watch I wanted from Patek, Blancpain to Oris etc.

I realised there was so many nice watches on the Market. I realised Rolex wasn’t the be all and end all. The watch that liked that day was the Piaget Polo Blue dial. Then it got me looking at 5711 and Royal Oaks. I put my name on the list for the 15400 (12months) sold a couple of Rolex’s and got my AP Royal Oak. I love it.

Now I am looking at different watches I now adore Grand Seiko & Jaeger LeCoultre. Maybe I can get one more watch???

Started the year with no decent watches at all (most expensive was a £270 TW Steel) and also no interest in watches, didn't wear them.

Was left one of my late fathers 2 Rolex's in April, Decided to wear it for a few weeks as a daily (dad wore this one as a daily)

Since then have gone on to buy a new Omega Seamaster 300 and Tudor BB GMT. The Seamaster has become my daily.

I've always loved watches but after buying my first 'proper' watch 10 years ago ('only' a Rado Ceramica but I loved it from when I first saw it), I basically just wore that 24/7 the entire time, so there was no need for anything else.

For whatever reason another Rado, the True Open Heart with its mother of pearl dial, was just enough for me to catch the bug again and it has all escalated rather quickly from there. The last six months has seen the arrival of a Junghans Max Bill Chronoscope (I blame PH for this), the aforementioned True Open Heart, a Christopher Ward Trident Ombré (I blame PH for this as well) and most recently a Romain Jerome Moon DNA 1969 with meteorite dial.

I somewhat foolishly bought a box capable of housing 6 watches, as if somehow 7 (one on the wrist remember) would be enough... What a fool.

There's at least 3 or 4 'boxes' I'd like to tick with watches, and realistically I think I've thought of 2 more whilst typing this sentence...I'm going to need professional help.

Another important lesson I’ve learned to take seriously is slow down and think. I love the new Seamaster 300m but I’m not going to jump in. I’ve learned to let a watch simmer. If you love it now and love it in 12 months then it’s a buyer but I have got excited about watches and forgot about them in a couple of months.

Good advice there.
I bought 6 this year, 3 on impulse.
In order of purchase:
Bulova Lunar Pilot in silver on leather. It had been on my radar for a while before purchase and I love it.
Magrette Moana Pacific Kara. Another that was on the radar for a while and it probably sees more wrist time than almost any other.
Dan Henry 1970 Diver. I blame PH for this impulse buy. Whilst I like it it doesn't get a lot of wrist time. Don't know why, just doesn't.
Christopher Ward C8 vintage flyer (black PVD). Another impulse buy and whilst I like how it looks I've not gelled with it at all. Have tried a number of straps but so far it's not there. Possibly because I normally go for stainless or titanium the PVD is putting me off.
Bulova Military Heritage. Not quite an impulse buy but I love it and it's far better than the £129 selling price suggests. It's now on a custom leather strap made from a Russian military belt (allegedly) and looks far better. Gets nearly as much wrist time as the Magrette.
Mühle Glasshütte 29er in black. An impulse buy that I absolutely love. The sheer simplicity and clarity of the dial, the interchange of brushed and polished surfaces and the general feel of it make it a firm favourite. This is my preferred watch for wearing to work (collar and tie) so sees a lot of wrist time.

In the boxes I have at least 20 other watches to choose from including PAMs, Grahams, Omegas, Longines etc but they rarely get a look in these days. That said just occasionally I want to wear something different and they get pulled out to wear.
It's a nice problem to have deciding which one to wear.

I thought a picture seemed appropriate. For 2019 I have my eye on a Ball chronograph with tritium lume and a proper 'dress' watch. Must calm down.

Some stunning watches on this thread, and it makes me thank my lucky stars that I prefer quartz watches!!

We have a 1980/81 Omega Deville:

The daily is this Accurist:

Which vies for space with this Hanowa:

This humble Casio Edifice makes an awesome travel watch:

And hopefully this automatic will return repaired from Variomatic soon:

All worth peanuts - all very much enjoyed!!
