Not sure if my car history is listed on my profile, but after 3 V8s in a row, it was time for a change.

So far I think it's fantastic, nothing like anything I've ever owned. Practicality is rubbish, don't care. Doors need loads of space, don't care.
It sounds great (yeah, I know it's fake), drives beautifully and I personally think it looks fantastic. One happy man at Christmas 😂

Very, very cool. Far too overpriced here in Germany but I think they look magnificent and I like the philosophy. I think a 2.0L four would be a better engine choice but that aside, and with decent wheels and tyres and suspension it would be a barrel of laughs. ACS have done quite a bit with it already.
Looking forward to reading about your thoughts long term.

After almost 2 weeks of ownership, I'm averaging 45.6mpg, having just bothered to charge it from home. The electric only range isn't a great deal but it's surprising how many of my journeys can be done on electric power alone. I'm getting better economy out of it than the wife's Fiesta Vignale
It's still pretty nippy in electric only mode too

They are such wonderful things to see on the road so can only imagine they are great to own.
You said you had three V8's what were they?
First one back in 2011 was a BMW 650iYou said you had three V8's what were they?
Second in 2013 was an Aston Martin Vantage 4.3
Last one was bought in 2015, a Jaguar XJ Supersport
All great cars (Aston was ruinous to run)
I contemplated a similar move last year but a couple of nagging doubts held me back (won't voice these as no place for negativity when you're loving your new steed).
Certainly a striking looking thing and cannot argue with the value they represent these days, especially throwing in that mpg and £0 road tax too! In many ways it makes a compelling case for itself.

I’ve also had three V8’s in a row now (RS5, RS4 and Mustang) and toyed with the idea of an i8. My only concern is the doors as I will need to be able to get in and out in a car park that occasionally I can’t find a free end or kerbside space. They are such cool looking cars though I might just have to scratch that itch.
Is a slightly less than glamorous exit possible with the door half opened or is it just impossible to exit unless fully opened?

45mpg!
there's nothing to dislike about these cars other than the initial price and it'd be nice to just have a little more performance
Mine’s averaging 51mpg over the last three years and the only cost so far (exc insurance and fuel) in 15k miles is a pair of rear tyres, cheapest car I’ve ever owned.there's nothing to dislike about these cars other than the initial price and it'd be nice to just have a little more performance
You can’t have too much performance but I reckon the i8 is fast enough for the road - the torque from low rpm is epic and it only starts to feel ”slow” when you’re deep into lengthy ban/prison territory. And compared to my bike any car feels slow!
Exiting doors requires full opening but they need less space than most coupe (about 18 inches is all you need). The biggest prob in tight spaces is adjacent 4x4 mirrors as they seem to be at the worst height to restrict full door opening but I tend to park on end slots anyway as the car is transit van wide anyway!

What’s the detail on elec then? Charging time, range etc
Much room in the back?
My parking space has no electric accessibility and yet BMW advised me that was no issue at all. The car would charge through using it alone to no detriment. Range on electric only was modest and about 20 miles was quoted but it’s a hybrid more than about an electric car, albeit handy when crawling in traffic. Much room in the back?
Room in the back seemed on a par if not slightly more than a 911. Certainly enough for <teenage kids I should think.

Charging time is about 2-3 hours from a standard wall outlet with the included charger. Range is quoted as 22 miles IIRC but realistically in the winter I've managed about 15 using just electricity (but tend to use it as a hybrid over pure electric anyway) Much room in the back?
There isn't much room in the back, it's awkward to get into and out of but at a push you could squeeze someone in. I'd suggest it's additional storage more than seats (think Evora)
Bit of an update, I didn't use it too much through the snow and I've been on holiday. During the frosty mornings I noticed my screen washers would take forever to defrost - figured I'd put some stronger solution in. Now the i8 is designed in a way that you can't open the bonnet, so the screenwash fill point is actually on the plastic panel between bonnet and windscreen, where the wipers are. When I went to fill it up, I noticed the small plastic cap was missing, and essentially my screenwash was rainwater. Not sure if it was missing when I bought the car or if it has gone missing during my ownership but a quick phonecall to the local BMW garage suggested I'd have to buy a full system from them at the cost of £160 or so. A quicker google later and for £6.66 plus £14 shipping, I had the part sent to me from Germany. Sorted!
In the past few weeks as the weather has improved, I've been using the car more regularly and realised the boot isn't that bad a size. I can easily get 6 bags of shopping under the parcel shelf so plenty for my weekly shop. Not so handy for Costco runs... Just have to park out the way at the supermarket.

Private plate finally on, car looks a lot better with it and it's actually straight at the back now

Getting about 45mpg at the moment and I run it mostly in manual in sport mode, so can't moan about that.
