Had decided on Clive’s manifold, keeping the standard Y piece and finishing off with ACT cherry bomb system but have now started to think about the ACT sports manifolds (catless) with the standard back box. The latter seems to have a snarlier sound. I appreciate sound is a personal thing but any thoughts on the above.

I'd go for Clive manifolds and Y piece, full decat. That way you are sure of getting the same grade of stainless so it'll heat tint evenly. Also Clive's manifolds are finished beautifully and cost practically the same

I have the ACT sport manifold setup.

Definitely a snarlier sound. Happy to demonstrate if you're ever in the area.

Are your ACT manifolds catless? If yes what do you do come MOT time?

The manifold cats are not an issue for MOT, it's the main cat in the Y piece that controls the emission tested for MOT. I have ACT catless manifolds with a CliveF Y piece and in retrospect I would have bought Clive's manifolds for reasons I'm not going to discuss here

Bobfather, the sports manifolds are different to the standard act ones in that they have no y piece. They have long headers and either two small cats down to the exhaust or 2 straight through pipes. It’s the latter I’m thinking about as they sound great but mot will be an issue. Point about your system noted.

If you stick with the original profile set up and you struggle one year to get a friendly mot tester, then it's the 'simple' hassle of putting your old CAT back in place, otherwise you're into undoing the hole set up and sticking your original set up back on for the test.... I can't see its worth the hassle myself and I've gone for the full original style set up from CF.

Alternative would be to add a new CAT further down the system, maybe?

Friendly MOT tester, cough.
