Thanks for reading....

I have an Audi A6 avant 2.0 TDI. I changed both the front brake discs and pads a few months ago (June from memory) with Eurocarparts Brembo parts.

The brake pad warning light came on today and I am stumped at how these could have worn out so quickly. Looking at the disc and pad in situ, i can see that the pads are worn at an angle that does not match the disc. What is going on here?

Its difficult to photograph......

Could be the sensor wire that has snapped.

Is the warning on all the time from engine start or is intermittant? I have the warning come on at random, the garage say it is the wire that is the problem.

As this is now an MOT fail, ignoring it is no longer an acceptable solution and I believe Audi do supply a repair section for the wire harness.

Thanks for responding....

Its on all of the time. I will take the car apart on the day after boxing day, to have a look.

Yes, I have heard that the wires are delicate and break easyily....

Pads were not a tight fit when orignally fitted.

I will buy another set from ECP today and then take apart.

The pads are still very thick at the closest point to the centre of the disc and then heavily worn at the outer edge of the disc. This is on both front brakes.

Could this be related to disc size? I notice that the A6 of this vintage came with several differnt sizes of disc.

Any help much appreciated.

Yes that is the chamfered edge on the pads. Nothing looks wrong with them. Have you actually taken the pads out with the sensor attached to inspect it? If you have a spare plug e.g. from previous pads with some wire attached then wrap the wire around each other then plug the male plug you have just made into the female plug and see if the light goes out. If the light goes out then there must be some sort of cut/short in your pads. If the light doesn’t go out then your problem will be with the female plug side. I’ve just replaced the female plug on my brothers mk5 golf as the wires were all mouldy after the female plug was removed. Also 1 wire was snapped which I recon it was due to rattling when hitting pot holes or just someone who last changed his pads were careless.
