No headunit, bluetooth sounds in classic ?

Got tunes on my phone.
Don’t want a headunit in the car.
But would quite like some bluetooth enabled sounds in the car using proper plumbed in speakers etc....

Currently just using a JBL Flip 4, but it’s at its limit in an old car.

Must be some type of hidden bluetooth only unit I could use that’s boot or glovebox mounted only ?

Parrot kit (mki9000) - only has a small remote which is mounted wirelessly, somewhere. (or held loose in a pocket?)

The wiring will need to be custom installed to the wiring of the existing stereo/ headunit. (not difficult).


The higher soec Parrot units have an unnecessary screen. Lower spec units do not provide support for music (just phone calls).

The online bookseller does a number of 12v powered Bluetooth amplifiers that will drive a pair of speakers. Very small and will fit easily in a classic.

Nope, just a set of speakers, that's the whole point of it. Original radio (if fitted) can be left in place, units bypasses by connecting into speaker wires.
Mine will just have this unit hardwired into the car and run to a pair of speakers.

Sorry missed the bit about no headunit/ stereo at all - just thought (imagined) the OP wanted to keep the original. A parrot kit can still be wired to just speakers. It has an in built amplifier too.

I know you said you didn't want a head unit but....

I just bought one of these, the width is normal, but the depth is less than 4". Less than half conventional units. I'm sure it could easily be hidden behind the dash or perhaps under the seat. It has remote control, so having it hidden would not impede access.

It has Remote Control, Bluetooth, SD and USB slots which take 128gb each.

I've fitted one in my Daimler in the conventional slot and I shall fit one under the seat in my other classic when it's back from resto in the spring.

If you want to be fully handsfree with both streaming and the phone function you may try the the following setup:

- Any compact car amp with RCA low level inputs to drive the speakers (ideally with volume/tone controls)
- Handsfree kit with Bluetooth streaming. My favourite is the one from Aukey http://amzn.eu/d/iDyyV1R - have in in two cars and it works really well.
- Ground loop isolator: http://amzn.eu/d/8r00mYb to keep the noise away

If you just want to stream music, I have stumbled upon this:

In case you still hear the alternator pitch - and only when the phone/device is plugged into the car charger whilst listening to the music - you will need to isolate the phone/device power supply it with it's own 12V ground loop isolator.

I use a really simple set up in my car, I have a portable Bluetooth speaker paired to my phone which is normally in my office. But when I take the car out I simply put it on the parcel shelf the and it works for me.

Not brilliant sound quality but it works well enough for me.

I just stuck one of these in the extant hole in the dash of my ‘73 GTJunior... I could hear the wailing and knashing of many alfisti teeth worldwide as I removed the remaining few bits of 45yr old veneer (with a box cutter) and surprisingly shiney steel (I can see through the rusty firewall into the airbox.... but my original dash is uncracked, solid and shiney, go figure)

Looks pretty good, can be turned completely dark and face removed, could also be hidden anywhere as it just connects with the Iphone and Spotify etc on start, but I quite like using it as a nav unit... and watching the 123 ignition doing its thing

Can’t actually hear it over the exhaust or induction as I need better speakers and an kickarse amp, but the hole in the dash is much neater now

Nope, just a set of speakers, that's the whole point of it. Original radio (if fitted) can be left in place, units bypasses by connecting into speaker wires.

I looked into this quite heavily and there isn’t a simple, elegant solution. The simplest is a cheap single din head unit under the seat, or similar.

I must admit most of the above is not really floating my boat. But still want to stay away from a head unit.
