Popey said:
He also condemned the huge divide between the world's rich and poor, saying Jesus's birth in poverty in a stable should make everyone reflect on the meaning of life.
Erm. Vatican. Poor? Divide? The rich Vatican shalt not give to the poor, other than words and sermons.

[quote]not by devouring and hoarding, but by sharing and giving
Just as The Vatican and most religions hoard trillions.

I think most people are doing OK compared this lot.

Thought he stayed living out in a couple of rooms in the Casa Santa Marta hostel not the Papal Appartments?

So doing exactly what you suggested?

That doesn't look very hostel like to me, especially when they say it's a suite of rooms. I wouldn't mind "simplifying" my bedroom to that standard.

Three ways still makes us billionaires. I am happy with that and of course they would be delighted as that means sharing......

To his credit, you are right.

Doesn’t help with the rest of the church, but he is doing his best.

Doing his best???? What, handing over all internal records on child abuse and rape to Interpol, so the last pope who is still living in the Vatican, can be arrested?

I am no defender of the Catholic faith, but I suspect it isn’t as simple as “Right, guys, I am now the Pope, so lets sort out 500 years of abuse and the have a healing Mass next Sunday,”

Institutionalised cover up aside, what’s to stop him doing exactly that?

It really is. "Hello, is that the head of Interpol? I'm the new Pope. Can you come round with about 100 of your officers, I'm giving you free reign to go thru all our records, and arrest whoever you choose to."
