Although the class structure isn't as defined in Ireland, I read once that you're middle class if you are neither poor enough or rich enough to own a horse. Seems about right to me.

Indeed, depends on your definition.

At the lower end you either don't have a car, have a banger or have something like a new Fiesta on PCP. Middle class might own a Golf or nearly new 3 series. Upper end might lease a Range Rover or it is put through the company because actually buying something with such depreciation makes less financial sense. Of course not everyone does this but it fits the stereotype.
