As the Law of Sod descended upon me yesterday afternoon (ensuring we missed the Queen's Speech) - we'd been discussing a new TV when we move early in the New Year
- our old faithful decade old telly died.

So, need to bring forward the purchase.

Can't stretch to the 65" C8 I was hoping for. That £800 is too big a leap just now.

So I'd resigned myself to the 55" C8 - but have just realised that the B8 65" is £100 more...

So, larger screen or better processor?

Either will be running Amazon Prime/Netflix on set. PS4 Pro for some gaming and SkyGo. Will be sat approx 3m away in new house.

Cheers!

Difficult one.

If you’ve got a room that warrants a 65” I think you’ll always regret getting a 55”.

The B8 picture is superb but I’ve never done a back-to-back viewing against a C8 so cant comment on how much better it is.

Do you have the B8?

To be honest, I think I'm getting all caught up in the stuff online - as a colourblind bloke, am I really going to notice the difference in enhanced colour processing?!

Same with HDR & HFR - OK, the B8 can't do it simultaneously, yet there doesn't seem to be anything out there anyway!

New house definitely has a room for a 65...

65” without a doubt, you will definitely notice the extra 40% of screen over the potentially marginal differences in picture quality.

Also depending on what you are changing from you might be surprised at how big it actually appears. I’ve both one of the last 65” Panasonic Plasmas and a 65” C8 and the LG looks much smaller.

B8 (I bought one 2 weeks ago and it's now £1800 - what can you do? :-) ) (paid £2k).

I looked into the C8 - the processor, and all the reviews I read said you'd be pushed to notice it, if at all. The B8 is stunning, make no mistake.

I looked at 55" screens and once you see how much mroe you get with a 65" screen I could not have anythign less.

Well rightly or wrongly, I went in with the intention of getting the 65" B8.

And came out with the 55" C8.

I know it's not hugely representative in store, however we could both notice the difference between them. The C8 was punchier, handled movement noticeably better, and had smoother darks.

Guess I'm going to have to work hard for a 65" C8 and put this tiny (current TV is 37"!) set up in our bedroom...

Interesting. They weren’t both on vivid mode were they?

No, got them to put them both onto "cinema home", and playing the iplayer uhd HDR demo.

The other half noticed the difference before I did, and she hadn't done any prep or reading, and they didn't have prices on so she couldn't have had a placebo effect.

We then got them to do the same on the 65" C8 next to the B8, with the same result. Tried filming it to show the difference, but no hope on my filthy phone camera.

I just ordered a C8 65 from JL and they price matched £2209. I'm sure I could've done better if I really tried.

That’s a great price and with the confidence that JL gives you I’d say you’d be hard pressed to do better.

Definitely - I've generally bought TVs from them as they honour their warranties very effectively - I had a TV (Samsung) that started to flicker very occasionally and it went back and forth to gogglebox repairs, eventually I got so annoyed that logged a complaint with JL and they upgraded me to the latest Samsung (or offered whatever make I wanted) for an extra £250 - 2 years later!

Saying that the last but one came from Crampton and Moore who are also excellent.

Nice work! I'm sure you'll be very, very happy...

We saw the potential to get the 65" for around that much - but with being just about to move, and having just spent out for surveys/searches/christmas/etc., couldn't stretch.

It's definitely in plan for soon after we move in, the 55" will not struggle to find a home in the new gaff.
