Best £1000 automatic - ideas?
Discussion
Merry Christmas all! Santahas bought me a nice looking quartz watch for Christmas, a Raymond Weil Tango GMT. I have a Seiko Prospex as my daily wear, and so, if I can, without Santa being offended, exchamge it for something else, that would be great. And really, I'd like an aoutomatic.
Steel band would be nice as I have a "dress watch", so something more akin to a tool/diver's watch would be lovely. Although I would not be averse to something very classic if it really were a very clean design - basically all ideas welcome.
My collection involves a Breguet Heritage, an Omega Seamaster Deville, an Omega Speedmaater Moon Watch, and a Breitling Astromat, as well as my trusty Seiko Prospex and a Casio F91. All fairly different watches.
All musings greatly appreciated. I think it needs to be new, as this is an exchange situation...I don't think it would be politic to ask for a return and for the money, to go nuts on Watchfinder!

Where was it purchased? You:we may be limited by brands available at the retailer..
I shall find out today!I'm not unappreciative and it is a lovely looking thing - but I just fancy an auto. No idea why. Weil actually do some nice looking autos at just over the £100 mark as well, like the Freelancer.
I keep looking at second hand Tudor Black Bays on watchfinder and thinking that an extra £1000 on a second hand watch is better idea. Man math at its best...
That's a right pickle you have there....
How to exchange something that someone - I'm guessing very close to you due to the funds spent on your present … that ou know you wont gel with,
I think you'll need to trawl the Raymond Weil catalogue as this will allow you to say …. "Sorry the GMT Quartz just wasn't me but I was able to exchange for this by the same manufacturer"
Whilst we all indulge in man maths … swapping a new watch for a S/H watch would be a hard sell to me

Agree with the Longines suggestion above. A grand is in no-mans land really though. I would also look at some of the offerings from Seiko as they offer a lot of bang for the buck. I purchased a limited edition grey turtle recently from the boutique in Knightsbridge and it's a cracking piece for the money and only half your budget. Seiko also do a few dressier watches for around the same price.

Thanks all. And these Farers are lovely looking things. Know nothing about them, will research. Finishing is important to me really, and they look as if they have had some effort in that department.Edited by Harry Flashman on Thursday 27th December 05:32
Very unlikely you'll be able to but for something beautifully finished and classy the Mühle Glasshütte 29er is exceptional value for money but is just higher than budget. Also if looking at tool watches the Magrette Kara comes in under budget. Again not likely to be able to swap for one.
