Hello All,

First some information about myself and the parameters:

I live near Istanbul, Turkey, so the prices and availability will be different that what you are used to.
For anyone who wants to dive into the madness that is our car prices, feel free to join.

I am looking to spend around 50-60k Lira for both cars combined, there will be a fund on the side for repairs and maintenance.
I am looking into buying 1/2 classic cars for myself, mainly as a hobby and a means for me to learn fixing cars and also because they interest me way more than most modern metal.

What I am currently looking for is the following combination

W114/W115 Mercedes (Series 1+1,5 preferred) + BMW E30 or E28 (6 Cylinder a must for me)

What are the points to look for in these?
Where do I have to look specifically to make sure I do not buy a lemon?

Important for me is buying cars which as little rust as possible as I think I will be able to handle mechanical deficits but would be overwhelmed with welding and repairing the sheet metal (for now)

If there are any other cars you can recommend as a start for classic car ownership I am open for suggestions.
