About to buy an E92 330D M Sport
Discussion
But the sensible side of me is thinking “what potential big repair bills are there?”
E92 330D 18 inch rims
84k miles
FSH. 11 services in its life time.
Does anyone have any experiences of big bills for this car? When i google it, there doesn’t seem to be many, however,
DPF - will likely need replacing within 50m miles - any idea on price?
Turbo - can seem to get refurb one for around £300 + fitting
6 speed auto box - I really hope not but seem to be around £1000 used

I know this sounds really stupid but my previous car was a lemon, and I want to be prepared with a budget.
Thanks for any help.

What year?
They're pretty solid, earlier (pre 2009/10 facelift) more so as they don't have the timing chain issues of some later cars. I had a 325D with the same engine and took it to 120k miles with no issues, great car.
M sport wheels are notorious for cracking, but reps of the CSL style and others are cheap from reputable places (CM Wheels etc) rather than trying to repair if a few are cracked. Non run flat tyres help here too.
I don't see why a turbo/dpf should be expected to let go under 150k, but you should budget to get the gearbox serviced to prolong the life. BMW say they're sealed for life units but they're definitely not, 80-90k is a decent mileage to do this at.
Otherwise just standard ageing diesel issues to watch out for like dodgy glowplugs causing rough cold starts. The engine running too cool is also dead common on these and caused by dodgy thermostats. Budget a couple of hundred quid for a garage to swap them, you'll need to access the hidden menu to find coolant temp on the dash (plenty of youtube vids/forum posts showing how to do this).

Probably a sound buy if you do enough miles to justify a diesel.
I bought an E91 325i SE (N52 engine with manual box) in February as a daily that only does about 7K miles a year - even if it is on 137K miles now!
Still,
No DPF.
No Turbo.
No Autobox.
To a large extent it's mostly about choosing a car that suits how you are likely to use it.
