Evening all,

I have a quick question. Having purchased my first BMW, a 630d GT xDrive, the front tyres seem to be wearing on the outside shoulders quite a bit.

It's a November 2017 car with 16,000 miles on the clock. The very outer 30-40mm of the front tyres seem to be wearing quite low. The rest of the tyre has masses of tread left.

Took it to a local tyre place but they don't have the car information on their alignment software, SnapOn only update it once a year.

Car isn't pulling left or right. Is it just a common trait with BMW's?

Thank in advance.

Find your nearest centre here: alignmycar.co.uk - any normal tyre garage won't touch BMW's - I was turned away from many - BMW's need 4 Wheel alignment, usually on a Hunter machine, this will pick up any problems.

They do have a tendency to go on the shoulders, toe in adjust may help..

FWIW , my BMW dealer were about the same price as my preferred specialist and did a great 4 wheel alignment. May be worth getting a price.

As said I’d expect outer edge wear , but not to the extent the tyre would be potentially ruined whilst as you say there’s good tread across otherwise.

I had a damaged tyre on my 335d x-drive that BMW replaced and included 4 wheel alignment.
I checked elsewhere afterwards and could not get a lower quote, even without alignment.

That car seems to be just 13 months old, so it must be under warranty. A steering fault that causes uneven tyre wear is something that should be fixed by the dealer for free.

I am sure if it was a straight forward warranty claim they would but with tyre wear the dealers normally put it down to wear and tear as something has been knocked out of line.

We have quite a few of the 3 Series Hybrids on our books and these wear the front tyres really bad. Every time a driver has taken on in they get told they must have hit something.

The front tyres on my 320d wore in an odd way. I replaced all tyres with non runflats and the fronts are wearing normally now.

The rears however have worn as if they have been over inflated but if anything they are slightly under the recommended pressure confused
