Got asked what the differences between an HSV GTO & Monaro VXR were the other day, by someone who wanted a R8 but like me doesn't know a practical way of getting one.
I know the GTO has a slightly different (sweeter) gearbox. But wasn't sure of any other differences, if any?

Is that the same as a Pontiac GTO?

I know the one I drove in New York the other day had 17" wheels and lots of other cheaper stuff than mine.

The 2004 HSV GTO (not the same as the Pontiac GTO) is very close to the Vauxhall 04 VXR just minor changes to comply with our laws.

The 2005 VXR 6.0l has a couple of changes from the HSV GTO like we have the old gearbox ratio's and the rear suspension has be changed for our country.

Is the 6.0L actually a HSV or a Monaro? Now HSV is soley GM owned it all seems a bit blurred. Are HSV's still assembled at the HSV site?
I assumed, maybe incorrectly, that the UK spec. Monaro VXR was a Monaro assembled by Holden not HSV, with some HSV parts added.
Since the demise of TWR does HSV have any input from the U.K?
Questions Questions, I haven't actually got an HSV anorak, but I'd like to keep up with things.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge UKHSV.

The UK VXR is a HSV product as indicated by the HSV build plate under the bonnet, the Monaro is a Holden product (no build plate)...............

The company who took over after TWR, still have some people working in Holden.

Tom still has shares in HSV and drives a Maloo in the UK (well he will do!!!)

As this club and forum started life as a place for HSV owners to get together it would be good to understand that HSV is king of the hill......but I am very please Vauxhall had the balls to bring over the Monaro and the club has evolved..............

Build number HSV 63 (2005 VXR) sits proudly alongside the Jaguar E Type and the Trabant as we speak.

Thanks for the info. Paul, my car is VX GTS UK 001, I notice its not on the UK Drivers Club register. Couldn't see how to register it! Please put it on if you want. The colour is Grey Storm Mica, do you know if there are any other VX's in this colour in the U.K? I think there could be one other, but never seen or heard of it. Apart from the visible differences do you know the mechanical differences between a VT & VX. My VX feels a little more refined (for want of a better word)& smoother than my VT, so guess that there probably is a difference in suspension?
Anyone else out there trade their VT for a VX?
