Hello, new poster here but been a fairly regular silent reader for quite a number of years now.
I'm in need of a new car being 6ft 6 and mostly leg, the old fiesta is giving me back trouble and must go.
I have been looking for estates but struggling to find something reasonable to insure for a 21 year old covering roughly 10k miles.
what would you recommend, also open to other vehicles with plenty of storage/room

cheers in advance

Budget?

If you can get reasonable insurance I'd look at the smaller-engined Skoda Superbs

Can you post a little more detail? Budget, mileage you do, would you entertain a classic? (say an old Volvo or Merc wagon, classic insurance)

apologies totally overlooked, looking at roughly 2k and will be doing 10,000 a year, not fussed on the age of the car aslong as it is comfy.
prefer not to insure as a classic so i can continue to accrue my no claims (3 years ncb currently).

A base spec Passat 1.9TDI Estate. Bulletproof engines and cheap to insure.

What about one of the best build quality cars ever made? Should be eligible for Classic Car insurance? edit, just noticed you don't want a classic policy.

Astra H estate.... dull as dishwater (and that's flattering to the excitement factor) , but fits the larger driver easily and useful load luggers , parts cheap and a decent example (particulalry as they're loved by the elderly) can be picked up well within your budget.....low insurance groupings too....

As a poor example.....

Honda Accord Tourer. In 2.0 or 2.4 guise. Comfy, reliable as you like and a huuuuge load space.

Cheap to insure as only old men drive them (oh and me) so they are never crashed. They are dull as fk too so never stolen. hehe

Bought an Audi A4 1.8t a couple of years ago for your budget.

Best car I’ve ever owned - cheap to insure, peanuts to fix, not fast enough to get you in trouble.

Not at all like my other cars so that’s why it’s brilliant.

Mk 4 / 4.5 Mondeo. Theres a reason they were so popular with long haul taxi drivers.

Most cars will be good for 200k+ with a history of maintenance and continued servicing.

Merc w124, volvo v70, Mondeo, Honda Accord and Passat and Skoda Octavia/Superb would be my recommendations. Try an Audi A4 but I suspect it will be too small: I have a Seat Exeo (A4 B7 platform) and am 5ft 10 and there is very little leg room left behind me.

Much easier than any of the above Mercedes are great for tall drivers big wide opening doors good legroom higher dashes than Jag/BMW means I've never brushed my shins on the bottom of dashes like I do in the former.

Also being two doors mean entry & exit is much easier than it would be in a four/five door.
