Can I have some respect for riding my 125cc Benelli in Durham today too?

I'll be on it again tomorrow as well when it will be -2c.

In fact I should get double respect for riding that tiny thing while my S1000R is parked up in the garage with it's heated grips.

Northerners. Double hard.

It's dry.
Besides, properly dressed and probably with heated grips - where is the heroism?
Try riding say 30 minutes at 30-40mph in 0C in rain (or snow) in jeans, normal jacket and racing gloves.

Nice dry roads around the North Yorkshire/Humberside borders today - good. Tomorrow, still <5C but lots of sunshine is forecast - v.good. The heat generator Honda bolted to the frame of the VTR comes in handy up North.

sunderland was pretty cold this morning, unfortunatly my helmet vents let alot of air in at 70mph.

think i might have to put some tape over them and keep my mouth and scalp a bit warmer!

When I was in the US in Oct, I did the huge mistake of just checking the weather at LA and Vegas. Lovely and warm. I never thought of checking some of the 6-10k elevation I was going to ride. Snow and 1 degree for 2 days. I had riding jeans, Vented, Windproof North Face jacket and waterproof jacket I bought over there and vented summer gloves. It was the coldest I have been. Next time remember Textiles even if it says 25 degrees plus in Vegas.

I'm test riding a bike Sat and it's looking cold. As another poster has said. Just wrap up warm and be prepared. I won't make that mistake again EVER

Head over the commuting thread. Load of us still at it all year. With the right gear it is no drama until it gets below -5 or so. Not much keeping my thighs warm in that weather.

Quite right. Got down to -5 a couple of years back on the commute home and in spite of all my heated gear, fairings etc I finally though "fk me, it's cold"

No such thing as bad weather, just the wrong equipment.

I much prefer 0C and dry roads than 8C with the usual greasy winter surface.

What I just don't get is you often see blokes on the latest mega bucks bikes blinged up to the nines sat there at the lights clearly uncomfortable hugging their engines when for the sake of a couple of hundred quid on some heated gear they could be as snug as bug and really enjoying the ride.

Is there some strange cult out there that says whilst biking you need to suffer that I've missed out on ?

Exactly. All about having the right kit.

In the minus numbers at motorway speeds for 1+ hours there is not much that will keep you warm. Goretex pro kit and heated jacket underlayer, bar muffs with heated grips are probably the best you are going to get on an Adventure style bike.

Would love to take the car in the morning but I would be sat in traffic for 2+ hours.

Lovely dry roads in the Peak District today. I do need to invest in heated grips though, I've been home two hours and my fingers still have pins and needles.

I have to agree with the above, I'd much prefer 0-5°C and dry than 10 and damp.

Bl@@#y ' ell it was just a bit of light hearted mid winter banter. Chill out man, ( see what I did there) seriously, get a life

seems you should be the one to chill out and get a life the way you get your knickers in a twist from one innocent comment wink
